Chapter 2 – Beckley High

1715 Words
I paid my Uber driver and thanked him before I stepped out of the car. In front of me was the school of my dreams, a large, modern, brown building with a huge board that said Beckley High. I took a deep breath and entered the school premises, and just like I had dreaded, I felt a number of eyes turn to me. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't a meek and timid little girl who would do anything to stay out of the spotlight; in fact, I had been in the spotlight countless times, but being the new girl in a school and in a new city, is simply terrifying, no matter how confident a person you are. I kept my eyes to the ground and walked straight inside the main building, but not before unintentionally passing by a group of jocks who made whistling sounds and sent me weird smirks. I rolled my eyes and ignored them, continuing my venture to the main office. I may add, that I was completely clue-less to where it would be, as the online virtual tour of the campus I'd taken previously didn't really prove to be of much assistance. I stood in the middle of the corridor, looking around for friendly faces, so I could approach someone and ask them to politely tell me the directions to the office. Yet before I could go up to anyone, a beautiful, dark haired girl walked up to me. "Hey," she smiled, her light brown eyes friendly and welcoming, "I'm Aubrey," she held out her hand for me to shake which I immediately took after shifting my books from my right hand to the other. "Hi, I'm Scarlett. Scarlett Chanel," I smiled back, glad that at least someone had the decency to be friendly towards the new girl. "I'm guessing you're not only new in this school, but also this city," she said, as her eyes scanned over my body, taking note of my clothes. "I love your jacket," she remarked, her eyes glistening with admiration. "Thank you," I grinned. "Can you please show me to the main office? I gotta collect my schedule and all," I requested, my face clearly showing how desperate I was. "Sure thing," she chuckled. - - - - The day went by as normal as it could for a new student in a new school. In fact, it actually went great. I had two great girls as my friends: Aubrey Williams - the dark haired, pale skinned beauty who was also the first person I met at this school and the one who briefed me about the rules (although there were very few) as well as the general traditions etcetera, and her friend Addison Embry - the tall, blonde, Barbie doll type girl, but one with brains. They were both really sweet to me and I was surprised I could warm up to them so easily. The teachers seemed nice up till now, they taught well, and weren't very strict (which was mainly because it wasn't possible for them to be strict given the kind of spoilt kids that went to this school except for a few) and the students in general made life hell for the teachers but weren't rude to me. Till now, at least. For some reason though, I felt something weird at this school. I found myself constantly looking around, as if my eyes were searching for someone or something, yet I myself didn't know what it was. I shook the weird feeling away and entered the cafeteria, my eyes quickly scanning the room searching for Aubrey or Addison. I quickly spotted them sitting at one of the tables in the centre of the cafeteria and made my way to them. "Scar, I'm glad you decided to join us," Addison chirped as she saw me, and scooted her chair slightly towards the side, as a gesture for me to sit at the other chair. "Of course, it isn't like I have anywhere else to go," I chuckled, and they laughed, as I sat down on my chair, placing my food in front of me. We talked generally for a bit while having our food, before Aubrey spoke. "So Scarlett, is there anything particular you wanna know about? Like in this school?" She asked, as she popped a fry inside her mouth. "I don't know, tell me more about the students. Any stereotypes?" I asked, putting a French fry in my mouth. "Of course," Aubrey chuckled as she and Addison shared a knowing look. "So first off, let me start with the mean girl." Addison started and I nodded at her. "Hayden Toretto: red-haired b***h with perfectly manicured nails, daddy's billion dollars, and amazing looks. Personality real ugly though. And of course her minions Valerie and Diana who follow her around like two lost puppies." She didn't need to elaborate further as I already guessed the rest. "Then there's Kylie Brown, the stereotypical nerd, who is bullied by practically everyone. We stay away from such activities though, I hope you're not into bullying people," Aubrey said and I vehemently shook my head. I was absolutely against bullying. "That's good to know," she smiled. "Then there are the jocks - Tyson, Andrew, Bryce, Justin, etcetera, some are sweet, some are mean, but all of them are fuckboys. So stay away," Addison explained and I nodded my head sipping my strawberry shake. "We also have a golden couple!" Aubrey added excitedly. "They're like the perfect, ideal couple. It's like everyone's jealous of them, yet everyone absolutely adores them. Catherine Florence - the most beautiful and attractive girl of our school, with jet black hair and striking blue eyes, plus an amazing body and an amazing personality, and Stefan Hayes - captain of the football team and star quarterback, Greek God looks, and a really sweet person." "They look so in love with each other, looking at them together makes you wanna get your own boyfriend," Addison added, chuckling and I snorted. "He's extremely possessive of her though. No guy can even glance at her without facing his wrath, and weirdly she is completely fine with that," She said. "Okay, so mean girl is Hayden, jocks are fuckboys, Catherine and Stefan are a couple, and Kylie Brown is a poor bullied soul. Got it," I said, summarizing all the information. We then continued chatting, and I told them about how I had a boyfriend back home who was absolutely amazing, and Addison told me about hers, Dexter, who went to a different school in Beckley. We were busy talking when the whole cafeteria suddenly turned quiet. A weird chill went down my spine, and it suddenly felt like there was a new, very strong presence in the cafeteria. I frowned and looked around, and my eyes then set on the three guys and one girl who had just now entered through the door. Everyone's eyes were on them. I resisted the urge to stare and quickly looked over at Addison, raising an eyebrow. "That would be the golden couple, and their best friends," she whispered. "The girl is Catherine, and the guy she's holding hands with is Stefan. The guy on the left is Warren, he's also Stefan's brother, a good, funny and chill guy, and the one in the center is Axel, Axel Kyler. He's like the short tempered, yet gorgeous guy everyone is afraid of, the kind even girls are scared of and can't find the guts to flirt with. Everyone swoons over him, yet no one dares to approach him. One glare from him has people running for the hills, and even Stefan, Warren, and Catherine seem scared of him at times, it's like he has some sort of an authority over them and everyone else." Aubrey quickly explained, her voice shushed and not above a whisper as she leaned in so I could hear her. "Why are you whispering?" I whispered back, a frown on my face. "I don't know, these guys just have supersonic ears or something, they seem to hear everything. That's why everyone just stops talking when they're here, especially if they were talking about them," Addison said seriously. "Oh," I whispered, finding her reasoning completely ridiculous but I decided not to push it. I turned around and looked back at the trio and the gorgeous girl, my eyes noting their every move as they went and sat down at a table, not very far away from us. For some unknown reason, I found myself staring at Axel, my heart automatically racing in my chest. He had absolutely gorgeous facial features - a sharp jawline, perfect stubble, well defined nose and dreamy, chocolate eyes. He was wearing a dark gray hoodie (the hood not over his head) which hugged his body perfectly, hinting at his strong muscles and quite possibly, his abs. It made me wonder what must be hiding inside. His lips were thick and plump and his brown hair had the perfect lustre to it, while it was styled to perfection. I was so busy staring, that I didn't even realize when he was staring directly back at me. I accidentally made eye contact with him, and my heart for some reason skipped a beat. He was looking at me so intently, his eyes slightly wide, and his mouth parted that after that skipped beat, my heart started pacing even faster. As if he knew what I was feeling, a hint of a smile appeared on his face and his eyes turned soft, not leaving mine. For some reason I just couldn't tear my eyes away from him, it was like his eyes were keeping mine captive. "Stop staring!" Addison whisper-yelled at me, gaining my attention and I snapped my head towards her, thankfully breaking my eye contact with the mysterious hottie. My heart calmed down slightly and I took a deep breath, while Aubrey and Addison gave me disapproving looks. Aubrey placed her hand on top of mine, "He's trouble, Scar." She whispered, her voice extremely soft. "Plus, you have a boyfriend," Addison chuckled, her voice not above a whisper either. She's right. I have a boyfriend. Then why do I feel this pull towards Axel? - - - - - -
