Chapter Nine: Hopes and Dreams

1022 Words
Ashamed was an understatement to what I felt; I was deeply embarrassed as if I was caught doing a******y with Noah, who had on a stoic face and an unnerved tone to his body language. In my faith, I was sure that we didn’t do anything to be ashamed of, but I was nerved by Ava’s appearance just at the same time I was going to get out of the room. “Don’t be scared, you’re with me.” Noah assured me, as he gripped my arm to propel me behind him as he took a protective stance in front of me when he opened the door to escort me out. My heart skipped a million beats at what Ava would look like once he opened the door, I gripped the back of Noah’s shirt in fear. Once the door of doom was opened, Ava’s snake-like eyes saw me and wanted to jump on me automatically, as if the cougar inside of her was summoned to kill me while saying, "Emma, I've warned you many times, but you never remember!" I was in for a rude awakening, I wanted to say something, but Noah beat me to it. Noah came up and held Ava's waving hands, "Eva, calm down, I took the initiative to invite Miss Green to discuss the project. You know, it is very important for me to apply for a good university, please don't misunderstand Miss Green. And I was about to escort Miss Green out before your coming, nothing happened between us, I need your trust." He calmly told the raging girl, as if it was enough to sedate her with his reasoning manner. I was bewildered at his mood switch, and I knew enough to not trust him, but why did I let him get to me? We were both fully clothed, and I had my school bag in my hand, I was more than trustworthy to prove to Ava that I wasn’t doing anything wrong with her boyfriend. She let me go once it had been registered in her shallow brain, she was completely under Noah’s spell that she defied the fight in her to let me free of her claws. As soon as I got out, Ava closed the door. This sound alone was loud and hurtful to me, I couldn’t deal through what happened between me and Noah, and he was more than calm about getting me out, but the sound inside the room was louder and more hurtful. My legs stayed rooted in front of the door, I scowled sadly at the interaction. I heard Ava's voice scream shrilly when I placed my ear on the door, "NO! Noah, you're lying, you are wearing different clothes than you did during the day, and you took a shower. You never do that when I'm around, did you have s*x with this b***h today! How could you do this to your fiancée, is Emma becoming your secret mistress?" she was all over the place when she fought with Noah. The thought of him saying yes to devilish Ava made me queasy, I didn’t want to get into a messy love triangle. That’s when I listened to his answer. I almost wished I didn’t. "I promise, Miss Green will never be my mistress, not now and not ever." The pain inside of me rushed all over my body at the sound of his voice. I felt a little sad as to what he stated in front of the furious girl, I thought about the fact that he called me Miss Green and that made snap down to the reality that Ava and Noah were in the same circle, and I was just a transient in Noah’s life. So, then why all the questioning about my care and what I wanted to do for university? Thinking of this, I laughed at myself and said, "So the soundproofing of rich people's mansions is also so bad!" I shook my head but stayed there for a moment. Inside the room, after hearing Noah's reassurance, Ava burst into joy, snuggled up to Noah, reached out and caressed his chest, and said in a seductive voice, "Noah, I think it's time we took our relationship one step closer, don't you?" That was my cue to leave as my heart sunk down to my stomach. I went to my room for a nap after the hectic hour, my hands felt drier than usual, so I opted out for a shower instead to soothe my aching nerves. I left my clothes on the hanger near my closet and went straight to the shower. Luckily, irritating Zoey wasn’t around, that only meant I could shower in peace without any troubles. I undressed and went straight into the tub as the hot water calmed my body. My thoughts went back to what happened, against my will to remember, I laid my head against the tiled wall exhaustingly as the water cascaded from my face down to my body, it was the least expected, yet it affected me even when I didn’t want it to. The sound of Noah’s voice telling Ava that I was nothing lingered on my mind, and I wanted nothing but to wipe that memory away as I sighed and put some lotion for my hands to get rid of the dry patches of skin. Why did I wash his stupid jacket, anyway? I was frustrated at the mixed feelings I endured but chose not to take it out in the bathroom, after applying the shampoo and rinsing it off as I massage my scalp, I felt a bit better when I stepped out of the bathroom after I wrapped my body with my robe. I felt fresh again when I changed into some grey sweats and a black hoodie, I tied my hair into a bun and applied some skincare before I went for my nap. With a Noah on my mind, I closed my eyes under the warm covers, and then made a wish, “I hope Noah and Ava could stay away from me as soon as possible.”
