Chapter Ten: Reality Check

1009 Words
Noah Pov. I grew up in California with my grandparents, that’s where the story all began. The day I saw Emma when I used to go with my grandparents to Emma’s Mom’s restaurant, then Emma and I would play on the beach until the sun went down, it was the best moment in my life when I was twelve years old. The way she smiled under the gleaming sun was forever imprinted in my mind, and I couldn’t get enough of her innocence and her simplicity. My whole world changed when my parents brought me to New York and arranged everything for me, including which school to attend, which college and subject to study, including the marriage with Ava. It made me feel like a puppet in my own life, like my parents controlled what I did and didn’t do. Ava wasn’t like Emma, I had no feelings towards her, simply because she wasn’t Emma, and she would never be. I was depressed at the fact that my life wasn’t mine and I had everything, but it felt like I had nothing without her. My life was a routine, I did as I was told my whole life and I wasn’t allowed to be myself. Ever since my parents got richer than before, they were more hands on with me and I hated it. I was unhappy for a long time until two years passed down the line, I saw Emma Green at Knox School’s opening ceremony, and it was like all the happy feelings came back because my eyes met her again. She was here and she was real in front of me, I missed her aquatic eyes and her presence. "You know that hillbilly?" a guy next to me questioned as I was going to go over and say hello. I was annoyed that he stopped me, he was shorter than me by a few inches, and he had a suggestive look towards Emma. "NO, no one wants to know a hillbilly like that!" I answered, hoping to deter the other males from going after Emma. I didn’t want anyone to talk to her, my jealousy got the best of me. I didn’t have any idea that it was the start of Emma’s bullying on campus, and if I knew that, I wished it didn’t happen that way. Everyone isolated her and bullied her verbally. Emma heard the news from somewhere and started avoiding me until we went back to being strangers, as if we didn’t know each other at all. Also, Ava was like a spy because she was always along with me. If I talked to Emma, or even look at her, Emma would always be met by Ava’s badly retaliation. I didn’t want her to suffer, but at the same time, I couldn’t keep my emotions under a lid. I felt powerless, my whole family needed the support of Ava’s senator father, I couldn’t openly defy Ava for now. Out of control, from Emma’s perspective, I seemed to treat her as one of her bullies, which made me sad even more. In Mrs. Carter’s class, I was unconcerned when she announced the project team members. However, when I learned that Emma was paired with Aiden, I had to act fast, that was when I encouraged Aiden to beg Mrs. Carter to switch the team members. Aiden was my trustworthy friend, so he did it without any complaints. I didn’t like the thought of her working with anyone else, and I used this chance to my advantage since Ava couldn’t stop the teacher to change her mind. Except that I had to assist Aiden in the project in exchange to rekindle my relationship with Emma, and that got me excited to start this journey with her. I informed her that she had to come over to my room to wash my jacket at 7PM or else I would come uninvited to hers. She agreed to come because she was scared Ava was going to see us. As our agreement, she came at the exact timing and got straight to work. I went to the room as I sat down and watched her every move on the monitor in the den. Sometimes, her cleavage was leaking out of her tank top, which made my body hot and my blood boil as the hard on made itself known in my pants when it tightened, I went out to the bathroom to take a cold shower to calm my pulsating body. Ava was right, I had intentions for Emma. When Emma came inside after I was showered and remained sat with my new change of clothes, she gave me the jacket back and stood there until Ava had to come and ruin the moment. Ava asked for a promise from him after Emma peacefully left. I told her, "I promise, Emma will never be my mistress, not now and not ever." Because Emma would be my girlfriend first and then my wife, I added silently in my heart. My love for Emma made everything in me surrender. Ava tried to seduce me to bed, I said, “I think we should keep it pure until marriage.” I didn’t want to even touch her at all, when Emma was the only one in my mind. The thought of Ava with me on a deeper sensual connection disgusted me, I tried to dismiss the thought the unwanted imagination. I was actually waiting for Ava to follow her loneliness enough to sleep with another man, and even, it would be best if I could use this opportunity to get the two families to cancel the engagement. That was what I had planned for and hopefully, it worked out. Ava was an impatient girl, she tried to hint at me a couple of times to get with me on bed, but I denied it each time to pretend that we should wait till marriage to temporarily derail her from her s****l needs. With my mind distant, I had to take action.
