Prologue
'Shhhh be quiet. Destiny will hear us'. Jack scolded. Little Lucy looks at Jack with her big green eyes and giggles louder 'You are the one making all the noise!'. she retorts. Jack looks at Lucy with all the sincerity he could muster 'If we get caught playing in this cave again, then Destiny will be mad and we won't be allowed to play together anymore'.
Lucy giggles again 'You are just being a big scaredy cat, Destiny can't hear us all the way out here.'
Jack suddenly becomes fierce as a little boy could be. 'I'm not a scaredy cat, I'm a wolf and I am big and strong and brave. Well I will be, but I haven't got my wolf yet, so maybe I am a little scared. Please, Lucy, can we go?' Jack whines like an expectant puppy.
Lucy laughs 'No way!' as she runs deeper into the cave.
Jack runs after her 'Lucy stop!' He catches Lucy and pulls her to the ground 'Shhh I can hear something in there. We need to go' The sense of urgency in Jack's voice was unmistakable.
Lucy immediately quiets down. She knew Jack had very good hearing and very good instincts and she knew that this time he really wasn't being a scaredy cat.
'Ok, let's go', She whispered. 'I'm right behind you', Jack said as he turned her towards the exit. There was a small undetectable quiver in his voice.
Lucy walks towards the exit being as quiet and serious as a little girl could muster. When she got to the entrance, she turned to Jack only to find she was at the entrance alone 'Jack? Jack, where are you? Are you still right behind me?'. Suddenly Lucy felt heavy. She sank down to the ground.
Destiny admires the two orbs fluttering around her, one green like emeralds, the other white, sparkling like a thousand diamonds. The perfect pair of Lycan orbs, one destined for Jack and one destined for Lucy. Jack is destined to be the Alpha and Lycan king and Lucy, a bloodborn Goddess, is destined to be his Lycan Luna.
The orbs flitter around each other playfully. Destiny smiles, she knows that any day now they will both get their Lycans and know that they have been chosen. A new Lycan King and Queen is only chosen once every ten thousand years, a blessing that not even Destiny herself has any say in, a task that rests solely on Fate's shoulders. The orbs begin to slow, no longer dancing playfully. Destiny takes them and places them into the source well. They immediately sink to the bottom. Their beautiful luster seems diminished, something is wrong.
Destiny picks them up and places them in the Temporal Chest. She needs to find Jack and Lucy. What have they done? Something is very very wrong. According to The Moonborn Omen, this was not part of the plan. Something was interfering with Fate and there is only one being that would dare tempt Fate in such a way, 'Jacob!' Destiny gasped. She rushes outside.
Jack stands still and quiet as he watches Lucy walk towards the exit. He watches her until she is out of sight. Then he hears an unfamiliar voice whisper 'Jack?', after that there is a sharp pain, then darkness.
'Jacob! What have you done!' Destiny shrieks as she bursts into the cave. 'He is my Son, did you expect to keep him from me forever!!' Jacob shouts back.
'He is the chosen Lycan King! You must release him to me now!' The urgency in Destiny's voice is unmistakable 'Please Jacob! before Fate finds out, we can fix this'.
Jacob looks down at his boy 'It's too late'. Jacob whispered 'Ive already turned him, I didn't know, why didn't you tell me?', he asked, with a pained expression.
Tears started to fall down Destiny's face 'You know I am not allowed to reveal Fate's plans, after all I've done to protect our Son and this is how you repay me by trying to steal him from me?!'.
Destiny is visibly distraught. Jacob looks at her, wanting to comfort her, to reach out to her, but he knows that it is no longer a possibility. Yet his love for her was as strong as the day they met and he still felt drawn to her, he still felt the pull towards her as his mate, but he knew that it would never be accepted. The pack would never accept him now, he could never go back.
Destiny was Jacobs' second chance mate. Before he met her, he thought he was destined to never love again, but then, just as suddenly, Fate cruelly turned and took them away from each other. And yet in this moment, in another twist of Fate, they are about to lose the hope of ever having another Lycan king.
'I can't believe you have done this' Destiny sobs '. We have to hide them. We will send them to the Shadow Realm where Fate can't reach them. At least then they will be safe and we will have to hide from Fate ourselves. It's the only chance they will have.' the desperation in her voice was unmistakable.
She loved little Jack and would sacrifice anything for him. She loved little Lucy too, as if she were her own blood. Destiny had found Lucy inside this very cave. Lucy was all bundled up like a bakery bun in a long shroud of silken brown fabric, the kind that was routinely used for burial, but she could tell that this bundle was very much alive by the amount of wriggling, cooing and snorting coming from the pile on the floor.
That's also when she met Jacob. She sensed him nearby and could feel her wolf becoming restless, willing her towards the back of the cave. Her heart beat loudly as she edged further into the cave, her wolf pleading with her to hurry, the sense of urgency building, then she saw him her destined mate. They immediately connected and accepted each other.
Jacob later explained to her that Lucy was abandoned by her parents, Chance and Luck, who had decided to turn against Fate, but Fate had found them before they could reach the Shadow Realm. Jacob had grabbed the baby and carried her to the cave until he decided what to do. That's when they decided to name the baby Lucy and raise her as their own. Such a sweet and honorable beginning, but now, 11 years later, everything is a mess and if they don't find a way to save Lucy and Jack before Fate finds out there really would be Hell to pay. 'Please, Jacob', Destiny whispered 'Let's get them to the Shadow Realm quickly.'
Jacob was confused why Destiny was suddenly so afraid of Fate. It made no sense. He knew Fate and Destiny had their differences, but they always worked together none the less. Destiny had changed. She had become more secretive ever since the vampire invasion. It was almost as though she was a completely different person.
Maybe it was him that had changed. When he was turned, he lost his wolf, which was his source of guidance and wisdom. Now he just felt like a blundering fool. Plus he didn't have any of the perks of becoming a Vampire. He had no super strength, speed or agility, he didn't feel smarter, he didn't crave blood. He just looked like a Vampire. His skin was pale almost luminous, his eyes were bright like diamonds, his hair had darkened. The was definatly and adversion to sunlight but he could tolerate it. He felt kind of mortal.
'Jaccob, are you day dreaming again?' Destiny sounded impatient. 'Like I said lets get them tto the shadow realm. quickly!'
