Cole smiled inwardly as Mia blanched at his possessive tone. Yeah, she was his and he did not mind letting his dickhead brothers know it. She stared at him with wide, shock glazed eyes. Then her gaze slowly moved from him to Callaway, Eli, Jackson, Marjorie then came back to rest on him again. Cole felt alive as her huge black eyes stared at him, like he'd just been zapped with a life wire. Damn, this woman had no idea what she did to him. His damn d**k was already standing erect under the influence of her hot gaze and he sent a secret prayer of thanks upward for the long shirt he'd donned before coming downstairs or his brothers would've probably taunted him to the seven depths of hell and back by now.
The moment was broken when Callaway stepped forward and took Mia's hands in his, placing a slow, lingering kiss on her knuckles. Cole felt his fists tighten involuntarily at his sides, jealousy already rearing it's ugly, green head. He knew his brother only did that to push his buttons and the spark of possessiveness burned within Cole, so sharp that if Callaway had not been his blood, he would've probably be lying, a bloody, mangled mess on the garage floor for daring to touch what was HIS.
"Bonjour, mademoiselle" he drawled, his french accent getting stronger from many years spent in the great country of France.
"At the very risk of having Cole here chop off my head, I'm Callaway. Callaway Anderson at your service m'am, be it hot and sweaty."
Cole let out the growl he'd been keeping tightly reined in for the past twenty minutes.
"Don't flirt with her, you ass."
Cole's eyes sparked a bright silver, while his brothers struggled to hide their guffaws. Marjorie however had not said a single word. She was looking very intently at Mia, like she was trying to figure her out. Marj was a Lycan witch, with the ability to see the past and the future, maybe he could get his sister to tell him the sordid details of Mia's past since she refused to do so herself. He damn well knew that the singular act amounted to invading her privacy but he was at the end of his goddamn rope here. He had to find the idiots that had hurt Mia, wipe them off the face of the Earth, then concentrate on how to keep her in his bed and his life for the rest of their lives. It was that simple, or was it?
Cole turned, then swore under his breath when he caught Marjorie giving him an odd look. She moved from her position against her 2020 model Mercedes and walk towards Mia, her blonde hair running wild against her face and her elegant and no doubt expensive stillettos making tapping sounds on the concrete floor. She gave Mia a smile when she attempted to shake her, then hugged her instead. That was Marjorie, the chummiest of the group and the only one that helped them to keep their sanity. Hell, they all lived their whole lives for her and were as protective as big brothers s***h werewolves were of her. It drove her nuts but then, he thought with an inward shrug, someone had to look out for her... make that four alpha werewolves.
Marjorie disentangled herself from Mia , her warm smile still in place.
"Hello, I'm Marjorie. It's nice to meet you."
Mia finally found her tongue.
" Nice to meet you too. "
" Don't mind my brothers, they tend to think with the head below their belts when ever a beautiful woman is in view. "
Marjorie gave all of them her warning, school marm look. The guys guffawed louder and Cole's temper shot up a notch. God, he just wanted to tie her up and take her far away from any male eyes. He wanted to be the only man staring at her, undressing her in his head like he was sure his brothers were doing.
He wanted her all to himself, every single part of her.
"It's okay." Mia said, obviously uncomfortable under their stares.
"Marj is sure right about one thing." Jackson drawled, " you are beautiful. And hot and so damn... "
" Enough! " Cole said, his voice barely above a shout." One more word about her from you... any of you, and I won't be responsible for what I do or who I punch. She's off limits. Off-limits. It means you can't touch her or f**k her or anything. You're not even supposed to look her way. Got it? "
" And why is that? " Mia asked, her growing annoyance and embarrassment at his words evident in her stiff tone. Cole stopped then turned swiftly and advanced towards her, she held her place, ebony eyes glinting. He stopped directly in front of her, not caring if his i***t brothers were watching, he yanked her into his strong arms and brought his lips down on hers in a hard, possessive kiss. His arms curled tightly around her waist, sucking the breath out of her as his lips sweetly claimed hers.
After a few seconds, he lifted his head to let her gulp down some much needed oxygen then he brought his hot lips to her ears and whispered,
"If you ever have any doubts or any questions, let this kiss remind you of what I said earlier. You're mine, Mia and I mean it. So you better get used to it."
He turned to Marjorie,
" C'mon Marj, Grand PA's waiting."
With that, he stomped off towards the house and Mia was left alone in the garage with his three brothers, her lips still tingling from the delicious after effects of Cole's possession.
"I've never seen Cole so serious about anything." Callaway mused, " What have you done to my brother, miss Mia?"
Mia gasped,
" Believe me, I haven't done nothing."
Eli's face contorted into a mask, one that said he'd just realised something.
"What if she's HIS? What if she belongs to him?"
Callaway and Jackson both let out gasps of surprise and shock.
"Well, I be damned." Jacksom muttered, grinning. " I think that our Cole just found his other half."
*************************
Cole took his sister's arm and led her into the mansion, his mind still on Mia and the kiss they'd just shared. God, he wanted her. It was an ache in his whole person that refused to go away. But first, he had to find the nincompoops that had been stupid enough to lay a finger on what was his and when he did, he was going to make sure they died a slow and painful death. He did not understand Mia though. Why didn't she just open up and tell him the people that had hurt her and make his job of finding them a whole lot easier. Man, she was impossible! Impossible and stubborn and so damn beautiful she literally made his eyes hurt.
Startled, Cole stopped. He'd never cared for any woman like this before, never. His money and good looks usually got him the women he wanted, models, business women and even billionaires like himself but he'd never thought of them like he thought of Mia. It was probably the bond, he mused. But even as the thought crossed his mind, Cole realised that his feelings for Mia went way deeper than the connection between mates. His feelings for Mia made him want to own her, possess every inch of her and make the whole world know that she was his. Damn, his feelings for her made him want to f**k her so hard it hurt but it also made him want to hold her, to cuddle her in his bed and kiss away that sad, haunted look from her eyes.
He was screwed, he was totally screwed. He had to find Mia's attackers, and he had to find them now.
"Can you read her?"
Marjorie had been giving him odd looks for a while now. One perfectly curved eyebrow shot up in curiosity.
"Who?"
"Can you read Mia?"
She gave him a startled look.
" I think so, why?"
Cole breathed a sigh of relief.
"Good, 'cause I need your help, Marj. I need you to read Mia. Just her memories from the past."
" And why on Earth do you think I would do that. That's total invasion of a person's privacy. If you want to know something, then you've gotta ask her, Cole because I'm not messing around in her mind for you."
Cole exhaled a frustrated breath. If Marjorie refused to help him then he would have to wait for Mia to trust him enough to spill her guts to him and the chances of that happening soon was zero, nada.
"You've got to understand, Marj. Someone hurt Mia in the past and I want to make them pay for it but she won't tell me anything." He rubbed his palm over his face, " She probably doesn't trust me yet but this is something that I've got to do, Marj. I have to find the people that hurt her, and to do that, I need your help."
Mia smiled at him,
" Is she yours, Cole? Is that why you're so protective and possessive of her?"
There was no point in denying it, Cole thought, his siblings were going to find out soon enough anyway.
"Yeah, she's mine. But if she wasn't, I would still want to tear the jackals that hurt her apart. I know that sounds crazy but..."
" No, it's not crazy. You love her Cole, you're in love with her."
Cole's head shot up so fast, he was surprised that it did not fall off his shoulders. He loved her? No, not likely. He cared for her, wanted her, but love? He was not sure he could love someone, he'd been cold and alone for too long.
"Naw, Marj. You've got it all wrong. Because she's my mate dosen't mean I'm in love with her. I just...care about her alot. That's all, that's it.
Mia snuffled a short laugh,
"Are you forgetting that you're talking talking to a Lycan witch, Cole"
" That's bullshit. You sure as hell can't read me."
" Correction, big brother, I couldn't read you but now I can. You're feelings for her are open to me. You love her Cole, you might not want to accept her now but you will, when you've almost lost her."
Cole's heart stopped cold. Surely she couldn't be serious. He was going to lose Mia? No, there was no chance in hell of that ever happening. Damn, he wasn't ever going to let anything happen to her. She was his to protect.
"What do you mean by that, Marj?"
His sister gave him a sad smile.
" Exactly what you heard, Cole. Mia's life is in danger. It always has been and it always will be if something is not done about it." One of the uniformed staff passed by and Cole half listened as Marjorie asked her of Grand pa Zach's whereabouts.
If Marjorie had really seen that Mia's life would be in danger, then she had to know who her attackers were. Cole had reached the end of his rope.
"C'mon, Marj, tell me why Mia's in danger. I am her mate, I have the right to know."
" Nope, I can't tell you that. Told you I wasn't going to mess around in her head and I'm not going to. If you really want to know, then you've got to ask her yourself."
" You know damn well that's not possible, she dosen't trust me. Hell, she doesn't trust anyone." Cole roared
When Marjorie just stared at him, Cole remembered that she was the only female that was not afraid of him.
"I'm sorry for yelling."
She patted his shoulder,
" It's going to be okay. You just have to calm down and think it through reasonably."
Cole was not feeling reasonable at all. His mate was in danger and he had to make sure she did not get hurt. But why the hell did things have to be so complicated? Damn!
