Alex’s pov
I followed Alpha Liam to the office. I knew he was going to lecture me about what happened earlier but I wasn’t in the mood for that. I was more preoccupied about my sister and her behavior than about what he had to say to me. I respected him, I wasn’t an ungrateful student and I was aware of the role he played in my life. He was my second father. He loved me and I loved him back, but I don't know why, I never bowed my head in front of him. Was I arogant? Maybe. I grew up stronger than anyone in the pack and everybody knew that, including Alpha Liam. Until a certain point, he was my master, but I surprised him a long time ago. One day he even said that I would be a warrior greater than my father, and my father was the best fighter and leader that the country ever saw.
Maybe the fact that he was also against my sister made me go against him many times, even more now that I was about to finally take the place that was mine by birth. Once the Alpha of the pack, I will make sure that no one would ever go against my sister without risking his head. The pack was very important to me because it is my father’s legacy, but nothing comes above her. And very soon each and everyone in the pack will know that.
“Are you aware of the embarrassing situation you have put yourself into, boy?” He finally started to talk after long moments of just staring at me. Probably he was taking his time to choose the right words to convince me that what had just happened was very serious and would have major consequences.
“It is not such a big deal, Alpha. I will fix the door and the window, but can’t promise that I will do the same with the tree.” I answered him clearly, knowing what he wanted to point out. Of course, he wasn’t pleased with my answer.
“ It’s not about those God damn things, boy. You know very well what I am talking about. She disobeyed you, challenged you, laughed at you in front of the entire pack. The pack which in 2 days will have you as its alpha. What do you think they are thinking about you now, boy? Do you think they trust you? Do you think that they still consider you as the best Alpha option for them? Do you think that you can be what they need?”he asked me, taking one step closer to me with every question he was asking.
“ I am their best option. Right now, they need a strong worrier that can protect them in these difficult times that we are living in, and that one is me. Even you know that.” I told him, looking straight in his eyes. I was much stronger than him and I wasn’t afraid of starting a fight. He was the one who would lose and he knew that. But his reaction surprised me. He didn’t shout at me, he didn’t threaten me but laughed at me.
“ You can’t be serious about that, boy! You are strong like hell ,true , but muscles are not all you need in a fight, BOY.” He put a strong accent on the last word and started to laugh again. I was really angry but I tried my best to control myself.
“ Why don’t you just say what you have to say, Liam”.
“ You know very well what I am talking about. That sister of yours will ruin everything. You have no control over her and she is no use for this pack. I am sure she is just an insignificant human for whom you are ready to risk it all.” I want her out. We all want her out and if you really care about this pack you will do it”.
Hearing the way he was talking about her made me lose control. I pushed him back in his chair and with both my fists shoved into his office, I shouted:
“ I told you very clearly 6 years ago when my father died and I am going to tell you again : if she goes, I go and like it or not, the pack needs me more then I need it. Should I remind you what my own father told you about her? Just in case you forgot, I will remind you: she will stay in this pack as long as SHE wants and she is free to do whatever SHE wants. Those were his words precisely. Plus, she has never done anything to any of you. You have all pushed her away and treated her like she was the plague. She suffered a lot all these years because of your indifference and your judgments. And why all of this? Just because you were scared of her? You know what, Liam? I hope with all my heart that she is just a little insignificant human, but I have a big doubt about that. And if I am not wrong, then I hope the Goddess will have mercy on you all.”
His eyes were looking at me wide open. He was in shock.
I couldn't stay in his presence for another second. I was afraid that if he said one more word about her I would tear his head off without a blink. So I left, slamming the door after me.
I was heading to the castle still shaking with rage. I never thought that I would go against Alpha Liam the way I did it. Something wasn’t right with me. Maybe it was because of her. The truth is that I have always done the craziest things for her and because of her. I have been very protective even tho she never knew, but I prefer it to stay that way.
Walking to the castle, I remember the damage to her room. The window and the door must be fixed, otherwise she will not be able to sleep there. I should better go and see if I can find some tools to fix the damage in the warehouse, I told myself. But I arrive just in time to witness another bullying from a member of the pack to my sister. Are they ever going to stop treating her like that? Seeing her with head bowed „What are you doing here shoulders slumped broke my heart. The second I entered she was about to leave the place so she bumped straight into my chest. I didn’t need to see her face. I knew she was crying because of the voice she had when she called me “brother”.
I barked at them too, like I did with Liam, because she is my sister and they owe her respect. I dared to face her and to my surprise there was a smile on her face, not tears. I asked her why she was smiling at him but she didn’t answer. It didn’t matter anyway, as long as she was not crying anymore. I can’t stand seeing her like that. I never did.
I looked for the tools and after I found what I needed, I took her by the hand and headed to her room.
Everything was a mess there.
“ Well, sis, I will start with the door. That’s the easy part. But what can we do about the window? We have no glass.” I asked her, running a hand through my hair. I didn’t realize that earlier. I was an i***t. How did I think I could fix the window without glass?.
“Don’t worry about that! I can put a sheet until tomorrow and then I will see where we can take a glass.” She tried to calm me down while she was picking up the pieces of glass from the floor.
“ Be careful with those. Don’t ….”
“ Ouch, s**t! “
Of course, she cut herself. I ran to her to see how bad it was. Fortunately, it was just a simple scratch on her palm.
“ It’s nothing but let me help you”, I told her, grabbing her hand and putting my mouth over the wand in her palm. The contact sent shivers to the spine. She felt it too. Our gazes met for a second but none of us could put a name on what just happened.
“ Your blood tastes different”, I told her. It was true. I might be crazy but it was….sweet. I have tasted blood before and I knew it must be salty. But hers was sweet…literally.
“What do you mean, different?” she asked, looking at me suspiciously.
“ It’s sweet. Try it if you don’t believe me”, I told her very seriously, but she laughed at me.
“ I think that the tree hit you hard in the head. Go and see what you can do with the door so we can go to sleep. We are both tired.” she told me, ignoring the things I said.
“ My head is perfectly fine and I’m not that tired. I know what I’m saying. Your blood is sweet.”
“Alex, the door is waiting.” It was obvious that she thought I was hallucinating but I know what I tasted. Her blood was sweet. How was that possible???
I fixed the door and she managed to clean the floor, but the window was still a problem.
“ You can’t sleep in this room tonight. “
“ Well , I don’t have where else to sleep. Plus, it is not that bad. Lucky me it’s not winter.” She said, laughing, but I knew better.
“ Come! You will sleep in my room.”
She was looking at me like I was some kind of a lunatic with her eyes wide open.
“ You have totally lost it, brother”.
