I'm five months pregnant and today is my check-up. My mother and sister-in-law are accompanying me today.

“Let’s go, Kami, we’ll be late.”

“No problem, my friend. You know I do it gladly. Now, let's go. I want to know the s*x of my nieces and nephews so I can shower them with gifts.”

“I’m also dying to know the s*x of my grandchildren. I hope it’s another boy so he can play with Joan.”

In the waiting room, I notice a very indiscreet person taking some photos. Probably to sell the news. My pregnancy isn’t public yet, and with the bed rest, I only go out on consultation days.

The bodyguard did the necessary, and the person left, slightly annoyed.

“Miss Kamila Fuente Mayor, please proceed to consulting room three.”

We go in, I answer the routine questions, and then lie down for the ultrasound.

“Do you want to know the s*x of the babies?”

“Yes, doctor, please.”

I clench my fists as my eyes fill with tears. This pregnancy has been an emotional rollercoaster.

“I correct myself, ladies. It’s a boy and two girls!”

“What?”

“Just as you heard, triplets. Congratulations, Miss Kamila.”

“Wow, daughter, that stranger really had it out for you!”

“Ha, ha, ha, mother-in-law, you say the craziest things!”

We went to the mall and bought everything for my sister-in-law’s three mini-aliens. It took hours, and then we went to buy materials for the rooms. Since Kamila can’t exert herself, we’ll be in charge, gladly.

Since my brother’s investigation yielded no results, I called Joel’s assistant in Greece.

“Wow!”

“The worst part is I don’t know who the father is. The responsible one hasn’t shown up. He made sure to erase the security videos. I presume he’s a very influential person or, in any case, the owner of the club where I went. Could you find the best private detective to help me, please? Make sure they sign a confidentiality agreement. I’ll send you an email with the few details I remember from that day.”

“Ha, ha, ha, Fani, can you imagine if he’s irresponsible? Maybe that’s why he’s hiding, having many children.”

My mother and Gabi arrived home with a truckload of things, and it’s not a metaphor. They literally brought a truck. They’re crazy!

“Daughter, they’re three! Do you have any idea how much is needed for those little ones? And how hard it is to decide? So we simply ordered everything we liked.”

“I don’t doubt it, mother. You went in and said, ‘Give me everything you have for girls and boys, double it, please.’ Ha, ha, ha.”

“Good afternoon, family. What’s that mess in the garden?”

“Good afternoon, brother. I’m telling you, your mother and your wife went to buy some things for the baby.”

“Some things? You brought an entire store! How are two babies going to use so many things?”

“My love, we didn’t just buy clothes. We brought stuff to decorate the three rooms.”

“Three? Are you remodeling Kamila’s room?”

“No, little brother, you’re going to have three nieces and nephews.”

“Really?”

“Yes!”

“I love you too, Joel. And yes, you’ll have a lot to take care of.”

“They’re two girls and a boy!”

“I’m going to have to buy a shotgun and hire more bodyguards. God, now I’m going to get gray hair. They’ll study in an all-girls school!”

After arguing with Joel, we started organizing everything. From my wheelchair, I did what I could. It was a hard task, folding and organizing the amount of clothes these women brought. I think my children won’t have the chance to repeat a single item from their wardrobes. While Joel happily painted the first room, I was finishing with the clothes.

When I placed my children’s names, I couldn’t help but shed a few tears. Soon I would have them in my arms, my little ones, Zafiro, Gema, and Leandro. I took advantage of the fact that they were busy and read the email with the information Fani sent me. It included all the details about the detective, the signed confidentiality agreement, and the fees for the investigation. I must note that his services are quite expensive. I hope this detective manages to find the whereabouts of the stranger before my babies are born.
