Chapter 2. Jacobs POV

1000 Words
Life here isn't so bad, we get to be who we are but without the risk of being exposed. We've come along way in how we survive, here we use animal blood to be able to stay strong and keep that thirst for human blood at an all time low. Don't get me wrong it doesn't satisfy the craving for that human blood but it's the way we choose to work here. I've never felt this distracted, not in over 100 years at least but I feel like there's something I'm not fully aware of, and I need to be. I need to know exactly what is going on. Us cold ones, we can connect with another just like the mortals can but our connection is more binded. Once we find the right mate we are bound together for eternity. It doesn't mean we can't have a little fun before our mate is found, that's exactly what I am doing, before long I'm going to have to start visiting other towns at this rate. 'Jacob, are you even listening to us?' Esmee laughed. Esmee was alright to hang with but not someone I could spend a lot of my time with, she had to be on top in everything. I mean we are a competitive breed but she took it to a new level. The rest of them are great though, Alex and Alisa they are each others mate and they look like the female/male version of each other. Their soft auburn curls contouring the shape of their face, Green eyes that glisten like a glass bowl full of emerald crystals, they had style and both represented the fire element. Then there was Jasper, he was a loud fellow very bold and confident but a bit of a joker. He was harmless though, well to his kind anyway. Like me Jasper didn't have a mate yet but we have done plenty of practise in preparation. I'm not sure how I will know when I've found my mate, I'm expecting to be stopped in my tracks, breathless, I don't know we shall see. 'There's the Halfbreed' Esmee began. Without looking I knew who she was speaking about. It was Ada, the half vampire half human. There was a few like that here but being a half breed wasn't something to be embraced. You see there's an unwritten rule to say you, as vampires, cannot cohabit/have relations with the mere mortals. If so then the perpetrators are banished from Darkthorn and are to never return again, and with this they must take their mortal partner with them. In return of no death by punishment the Manor then recruits the halfbreed children, which stop ageing once they reach 18, and use them to their advantage, like slaves almost. That's why Esmee hates on them, especially Ada, I think she feels threatened in someway so lays into her more. Ada continued to walk in the opposite direction to us, her short beach hair the colour of chestnuts bounced as she walked. She was always dressed nice but never wore anything that would make her stand out for obvious reasons, her usual attire, plain white tee and ripped jeans. 'b***h please tell me your on the way to shower because that smell is making everyone sick... Hey! I'm speaking to you.' Esmee screamed over, loving that she's about to cause some drama for everyone to see. Before I know it Ada's about an inch away from Esmees face, neither of them breaking and none of us expecting this. Ada' s eyes usually a soft blue had almost turned electric, I'm assuming with the rage. 'I've had enough of you and your vile petulant words, I maybe half breed but you shouldn't underestimate me... b***h' Ada's voice was calm but her words had strength. All of a sudden her foot met with Esmees chest and launched her into the lake. Everyone was shocked, even Ada, I could see her eyes begin to soften and the realisation of what happened hit. 'you need to leave now.' I said, as our eyes met I felt compelled to help, to protect her. I could see her mouth open as If she were about to speak but no words came out. 'Ada, go!' I said, my words sharp but calm. Urgency then kicked in and she was gone in one swift movement. Her scent wafting under my nose as she fled. Her scent, it was different to other girls, it was sweet and it left me wanting more. Was this who my mate is meant to be? No, it can't be, not a half blood, it's not heard of. They stay with their kind and we stick to ours. That's the way it is, the way it's always been. 'I am going to rip her limbs right off!' screeched Esmee. As I turned to face her, I could tell this was one pissed vampire. Her once beautiful hair now looked like prices of string attached to her head and face, eyes black from the water ruining her make up, and drenched from head to toe. ' Esmee, just leave it. Come on you can't say that you didn't deserve this?' I laughed, hoping to avert the anger or at least aim it towards me, someone who can handle her rath. No reply was given instead she spun herself around and went back to her room. I'm assuming to dry off. ' Right! Now who's up for food? ' I asked. ' Food? Do i want food? Hell yeah man!' Jasper exclaimed. Nothing got Jasper more excited than food. For the amount of weights he does he definitely needs his food. 'we're in too!' said Alice. As we headed over to the canteen, I couldn't get the thought of Ada out of my mind. Why did I feel compelled to protect her, usually I'd have let them fight it out between them. Maybe some nice animal blood will give me clarity.
