“But the legal procedures could take a while,” John suggested.
“I was told that he could either go on sabbatical next semester, if the outcome is in his favor, or continue the suspension, without pay.” All eyes were on Eleanor, just as she liked it. She continued, “He’d be up for sabbatical next year, so if he takes it early, he can do research anywhere in the world and get his salary. Of course, the University could dismiss him on ethical grounds after the ruling on his case.”
“You mean,” asked Lella, “If he goes to jail?”
“He doesn’t have to go to jail. If he’s found guilty of second-degree manslaughter, that’ll be enough, even if he just gets probation.”
John looked at Eleanor. “I guess you went out on a limb reporting him. That was the right thing to do.”
