Only one meeting was enough to get a part of her, only one to be able to apply the results of getting together with my future husband. I don't care if she's his patient, I know what I saw in her eyes and I know she has feelings for him.
Jefferson decided to sneak Elizabeth out of the psychiatric hospital one day where he treated her so that I could meet her, he had told me a lot about her and I still couldn't figure out why a "normal" girl was stuck there. He wanted me to observe her behaviors or some indication of some mental illness, maybe he had overlooked something and needed another perspective from someone other than a doctor.
I don't think a dentist like me can know more than a psychologist, but Jefferson doesn't ask for many favors, so I'll take the opportunity.
The girl had pink hair, she had whitish skin and very particular grayish-brown eyes. The three of us had gotten together in an ice cream parlor and while my boyfriend was ordering the nacelles, I started with an introduction about myself so that she would get to know me a bit and thus let the conversation flow better.
"Yeah, Jefferson has told me a lot about you." Elizabeth said.
The first thing I noticed was the sadness in her voice and I wondered if she really disliked that. Inside me an inexplicable jealousy began to arise that with the passing of the afternoon would have more bases and meaning.
"What did he said?"
"He used to work for you and that you will be married soon, that you are good at fixing teeth and the only thing he left out was that you were really beautiful."
When she said that last, she looked away and covered her gaze with the long bang of her hair. I figured she was embarrassed to say that or the comment came off.
"Well thanks. He has also told me about you, you really are a teenager at your best."
I laughed a bit to ease her discomfort and she joined in almost wryly, then looked back at me.
"I'm twenty, but I still feel at that stage."
I remembered a very coincidental detail and I wanted to see her reaction, my mission to see beyond who Elizabeth really was was gradually becoming one of sentimentality.
"I recently learned that you had a birthday, Jefferson and you were born on the same day but in different years."
"Yes, I really didn't know that day he too was celebrating another year of life until he told me. It was a day full of surprises."
"Why do you say that?"
Before she could answer me, Jefferson arrived with the ice cream.
"Here you have: Vanilla with rain and chocolate syrup for you Elizabeth, strawberry and cream for you Amelie and I'll take the chocolate with mint." He sat down next to me and looked at her. "I didn't know what your favorite flavor was, so I hope you like it."
Elizabeth laughed, I noticed her relax more quickly and smiled at him.
"Thank you Doctor. Just having chocolate is enough for me."
And that was all I remembered before jealousy completely took over. I didn't show it, I never did because it wasn't worth it and I didn't want to argue.
The conversation had been pleasant and had its moments of tension, the first of these being when Elizabeth told me about the surprises of that day regarding her brother, the gifts that my fiance gave him and that she really liked being on the beach. The girl blushed a lot and she kept looking at Jefferson with bright eyes, in the sense that he made her feel different. Her gaze changed when I spoke and reminded her that her doctor was my future husband.
Suddenly, Elizabeth went to the bathroom and I decided to go with her. I know I warned her that there would be consequences if I found out that she was getting romantically involved with Jefferson and I remember her denying me that anything else was going on, but I didn't expect that at the time she was doing her hair a bit with her fingers became a unique opportunity. Elizabeth left the bathroom and I grabbed some long pink hairs that had fallen out when she was combing her hair, then the idea of doing something with it ended up being realized.
And here we were: I was creating a voodoo doll while my fiance slept. I had investigated about it in the following days after that outing and even approached stores related to the matter. In one of them, an older woman told me that I should create the doll with a great resemblance to the person to whom it would be applied and that I would tie some object of her own while reciting some words so that everything I planned to do would turn out perfectly .
"Ligatum meae vocem meam et actiones, ligatum ad hoc falsum enim motus, qui non accipere corpus et audient verba quod sicut c*m vix parvam stillam, erit ligatum et in hoc Elizabeth Collins", which has been translated from Latin to "Tied up to my voice and to my actions, tied to the sensations that this false body will receive and to the words that it will hear as a whisper, tied you will be to this Elizabeth Collins doll ". The lady gave me the spell and I just had to add the person's name, I just hoped it would work.
I was in the shed of the house and it was raining outside, I had two candles lit as I finished my voodoo doll based on Jefferson's patient. I sighed and recited the spell as I tied the strands around the doll's neck, the rain intensified at that moment and a chill ran through my body when I finished with the trick.
"Tomorrow I will put you to the test."
I smiled and went up to the room, putting the doll under the pillow and thinking about the things that would apply.
***
That day I did not have to attend to anyone in the morning, so I stayed in the room investigating a little more about what I could do with a voodoo doll.
When an hour passed after Jefferson's visit to the asylum, I decided it was time to use the ragged Elizabeth.
"How will I start with you?"
I looked at her and was surprised by the good manual work I did, I am not a very seamstress but following instructions has always been good for me. The pink hair that I had tied around the neck was intact and I stroked it lightly, smiled wickedly and whispered the following words into the doll's ear:
"Today won't be a good day for you."
I was scared when in the distance I heard the voice of my fiancé.
"What are you talking about?"
I turned around but did not see anyone, I looked out the window to see if he had returned and was not there. Was it possible that I could now hear the conversations through the doll? This gave me many ideas.
"Would you be honest with me?" I assumed the role of Elizabeth, now it was I who controlled her and would discover the secrets that Jefferson kept from me.
"If you are to me, you've been very distant these days. Was it something we talked about?"
I want to ask, but I have no idea where to start. Although I can take advantage of this confusion to get to the point.
"Why are you cheating on Amelie with me?"
"What are you talking about, Elizabeth?" Jefferson's voice had a lot of hidden surprise.
"You know what I mean, why did you take me to meet her knowing how I feel about you?"
I smiled and while waiting for an answer, I opened the drawer and took out the needles I had worked with last night along with some scissors and pins.
"Elizabeth, I have no idea what you're talking about." For real.
I wanted to see Jefferson's face right now, something told me he was lying and I started to get upset.
"Please, you know well what you have been doing with me since we met."
"Elizabeth, I have only sought to understand and help you. I have shown you that I am a different doctor and that I only want the best for you, I have already told you."
I stuck a pin through my head several times, Elizabeth's screaming voice filling me with satisfaction until I heard her say:
"It's going to explode me! I don't know what's happening to me!"
I closed my eyes and sighed, by the time I opened them I saw that I was inside her room. This just got better in so many ways, I tightly squeezed the doll's stomach and Elizabeth threw herself to the ground.
"It hurts!"
Jefferson was paralyzed, he didn't know what to do and there I attacked again.
"Oh, come on! Don't just stand there! Help me!"
That made him react and he immediately picked her up in his arms, placed her on the bed and made Elizabeth take him by the collar of his shirt to kiss him.
Jefferson immediately broke up.
"What the hell, Collins? Did you pretend to have whatever you had to kiss me?"
I managed to piss him off and this would level up.
"Please, doctor. You know well that you feel the same as me."
"You didn't wake up well, did you have a nightmare last night or did something affect you?"
He had moved away from the bed and was leaning against a wall.
"Stop lying to me! How can you love me and Amelie!"
"Elizabeth Collins, the only person I love and intend to marry is Amelie Hudson. If I introduced her to you, it was for her to help me decipher you, to see if she saw something that I couldn't analyze well, and for nothing else. I don't understand why you get like this."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing and yet the jealousy was greater, to the point that I made her get out of bed and lock herself in the bathroom.
I made her search everywhere for something sharp, Elizabeth must do the impossible against her will and make her suffer first. I didn't think Jefferson was faithful to me, not knowing the way he had told me about his patient and how much he wanted her out of the asylum.
I was very sure that something else was happening there and not even the doctor herself would make me change my mind, she was mine and mine alone.
I put more pins into the doll, specifically in its head and stomach, causing it to scream more and the knocks on the door were so loud that I thought it would break.
"Elizabeth!"
"I'm not myself Jefferson!"
The girl was the one who had spoken and I drove the pin in her stomach deeper. I wondered what would happen if she brought some fire to her wrists.
I quickly went down to the kitchen to find a lighter and touched the doll again, Elizabeth was outside the room giving explanations to my fiancé.
"It wasn't me, I really didn't want to say those things, my head hurt and my stomach twisted too much in an almost literal sense. I do not know what happens, I am afraid."
Noticing him hugging her, I lit the flame on his right wrist.
"What the hell!"
Elizabeth's arm began to acquire a reddish hue and she screamed loudly, that managed to attract the attention of the other doctors.
"What's happening here, Jefferson?"
Before he answered, I took out the blade she got from the bathroom and had it tucked into the hem of her pants.
"Stop right there!" I screamed, it was time to end this.
"Elizabeth, drop that."
"You lied to me, you cheated on me and I believed in you like a fool."
The doctor approached slowly and I made her back away, I didn't like Jefferson's face and his eyes of extreme concern.
"Lizzie, little one, give me that blade. We can solve this as we have solved other things."
Lizzie? Little? That spilled the glass of jealousy in its entirety. I had the girl cut the vein in her left wrist deeply, spilling a lot of blood immediately, and I hanged her voodoo doll.
"Die you damn bitch."
"Amelie?"
I turned and blinked several times: Jefferson was not with me, who was calling me? She was still Elizabeth, right?
"You are wrong my girl."
I put the doll aside when I recognized the voice: It was the old woman who had given me the spell for the doll.
"You killed her, you still had her doll in your hand when she died and when you spoke, what your fiancé heard was your voice."
"How the hell did you get in? How did you get me?"
"It wasn't that difficult, I always know when someone uses my custom spell. If it is recited with a high level of hatred, it makes many things easier for me, including finding you. You did everything well, but I think it makes you more practical. You have potential, I just hope your fiancé isn't so ready to find out what you did."
"What do you mean?"
"That was the trick of this: You gave yourself up to black magic when you decided to make your plot concrete and now you killed a young girl, that ended up creating you a witness. I am the only one who knows what you did my girl, you will have to work for me from now on if you don't want your fiancé to know."
"Damn you old woman!"
I had gotten mad, I still had the lighter and could do something with it. The woman laughed and I felt my hands tied suddenly.
"Don't even think about it, my girl. I am stronger than you, you should have thought things better and not let yourself be poisoned by your jealousy. Now, let me get rid of that doll as a favor. Then I'll come for you."
What was left of Elizabeth's voodoo flew off to land on the old woman's unoccupied hand, she released me and smiled at me.
"Don't worry, don't act reckless, I'll come later. Good luck dealing with your fiancé."
She laughed and then evaporated into a black cloud. Hell, my life had just taken an unexpected turn and she was right. She had no escape from anything.
