The Unexpected Guest

Nadira's mind was racing as she heard the sound of the doorbell again, followed by the murmur of voices in the hallway. She wondered who it could be, and what they wanted. Aunty Uju's voice was soft and gentle, but Nadira could detect a hint of tension beneath the surface. As she waited, Nadira's thoughts turned to her family's past, to the secrets and lies that had been hidden away for so long. She felt a sense of unease, a feeling that she was about to uncover something she didn't want to know. Suddenly, the door to the living room opened, and Aunty Uju ushered in a stranger. Nadira's eyes widened as she took in the sight of the young man standing in front of her, his eyes fixed on hers with an intensity that made her feel uncomfortable. "This is Ade," Aunty Uju said, her voice soft. "He's an old friend of the family." Nadira's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with questions. Who was this guy, and what did he want? She felt a surge of protectiveness towards her mother, who was smiling at Ade with a warmth that made Nadira feel uneasy. Ade, sensing her unease, stepped forward, his eyes locked on hers. "Hello, Nadira," he said, his voice low and smooth. "It's been a long time." Nadira's heart skipped a beat as she took in the sight of Ade's face, the sharp jawline, the piercing brown eyes. She felt a jolt of recognition, a sense that she had seen him before, but she couldn't quite place where. As Ade sat down beside her, Nadira felt a sense of discomfort, a feeling that he was invading her space. She tried to push the feeling aside, telling herself she was being paranoid, but she couldn't shake off the sense that Ade was hiding something. Aunty Uju, sensing the tension, intervened, asking Ade about his work, his family, his life in general. Nadira listened, her mind racing with questions, her senses on high alert. As the conversation flowed, Nadira found herself stealing glances at Ade, trying to piece together the puzzle of his presence in their lives. Who was he, really? And what did he want from them? The afternoon wore on, with Ade regaling them with stories of his travels, his work, his passions. Nadira found herself laughing, feeling a sense of ease that she hadn't felt in a long time. But as the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the room, Nadira caught Ade's eye, and for a moment, they just stared at each other, the air thick with an unspoken understanding. And in that moment, Nadira knew that nothing would ever be the same again. As Ade got up to leave, Aunty Uju smiled, her eyes shining with a warmth that made Nadira feel uneasy. "You're always welcome here, Ade," she said, her voice soft. Ade smiled, his eyes focused at the corners. "Thank you, Aunty Uju," he said, his voice low. "I'll be back soon." As he left, Nadira felt a sense of unease, a feeling that their lives were about to change in ways they couldn't imagine. And she was right.
