SEVEN: GENESIS In the beginning, everything was white. Completely white. Then Blott’s eyes adjusted to the pale landscape and features began to materialise. The topography was substantially flatter then the crater he had left behind. Small hills rolled to the horizon. The sky was the colour of fresh snow in all directions. An infinite whiteout churned like a mist, bordering the airspace over Ortus where it formed a soft disk of bluish atmosphere. Blott stooped and sat on the ground before his legs gave way. It was quite a shock. He knew that the White Plains were strange and desolate but the reality was like being on another world. He couldn’t imagine how anything could survive out there.
