Daphne POV

‘’wake up you fool!’’A voice shouted in my ears.

I woke up to the sensation of cold water splashing on my face. Startled, I gasped and tried to sit up, but my body wouldn't respond. It was as if I had been tied down or paralyzed. Panic set in as I realized that something was wrong.

Where the hell was I and why was I being treated in such a manner? Those were the questions I asked myself as I fluttered my eyes open.

Before I could make sense of the situation, I felt the first lash of the whip on my back. Pain exploded through my body, and I screamed in agony. Each strike of the whip was like a hot poker searing my flesh, and I couldn't help but cry out. Tears streamed down my face as I tried to endure the punishment.

‘’what the hell is happening? Has the punishment started already? ‘’ I questioned myself. Whatever was happening to me was a result of the grim reapers. They were the ones who had bought me to this hell.

As the flogging continued, I heard the sound of someone approaching. It was a man's voice, rough and cold, and it sent chills down my spine.

"You should have thought twice before defying me," he growled.

What was with that growling?

I struggled to make sense of his words, to remember who he was and what I had done to deserve this punishment. But my mind was foggy, and I couldn't recall anything that would justify such cruelty.

Suddenly, I felt someone grab my hair and pulled me down to the end of the bed. I could feel the rough sheets scraping against my skin as I was dragged along. I tried to struggle against the person but it was futile. It was until I was pushed to the ground that I could see clearly. The man who was dragging me looked like a giant and struggling against him was futile since I had lost my powers.

What kind of place did the reapers bring me to? I looked around as I was dragged away but it didn’t make sense until I was pushed to the center of another room surrounded by five girls who were dressed in the same uniform.

The maid uniforms were sleek and modern, with black dresses that hugged their figures and flared out slightly at the hem. The dresses were trimmed with white lace at the cuffs and collar, and there was a white apron tied around the waist. The girls wore black stockings and shiny black shoes, and their hair was pulled back into tight buns.

But the head maiden's uniform was different. Her dress was longer than the others, flowing elegantly to the floor, and it was made of richer material. The black fabric shimmered in the dim light, and the white lace and apron were replaced with silver accents. Her hair was styled in a perfect updo, with a few wisps framing her face.

I opened my mouth to speak, to ask what was going on, but before I could say anything, the head maiden slapped me across the face. My head snapped to the side, and I tasted blood in my mouth.

Her voice was cold and unyielding as she spoke. "You don't speak until you're spoken to, girl. You're here to serve us, and if you don't do exactly as you're told, you'll regret it."

My heart sank as I realized the gravity of my situation. I had no idea how I had ended up here, or why I was being forced to wear this uniform. It was the reapers doing and they had bought me into a strange place. A place that seems too cruel for me. I stood up from the ground and wiped my lips clean from the blood that was trailing down my face.

‘’you have no idea what you have done! You, humans, are despicable, and treating others like that is.…’’ before I could finish talking, I was kicked in the leg by the strong man and pushed to the ground. The head maiden slapped me across the face multiple times until I could barely see anything.

‘’I could end you right now as the head maiden but the luna queen needs all the maids she can get to prepare for the mating ceremony so ending your life right now will be a waste!’’ the head maiden shouted at me and pushed my head backward.

I was lost for words as I couldn’t think of anything. The place the reapers had bought me to seems to be the worst place ever. The woman who was in this place had to be treated unfairly because she was hated and the reapers had replaced me with her.

‘’until the next red moon,’’ The ruler's words echoed in my head. I had a few times left to find the man that I saved his life but instead, the reapers bought me to a strange place to become a maid.

How the hell I’m I supposed to find the man when I'm stuck in a strange place?

The head maiden heaved a deep sigh. ‘’I just got a mind linking from one of the maids, the future Luna queen is heading towards the royal mansion so we should get ready including you!’’ she yelled as she pointed towards me. ‘’wipe that blood off your face and since there is no time for you to bathe, wash your face and get ready!’’ she yelled at me and then walked away with the five other girls. The man holding me down let go of my hand and I fell to the ground groaning in pain.

Damn the grim reapers, I mentally cussed at them as I stood up. I walked back to the room where I was dragged from and saw a door open. Walking in, I realized that it was a bathroom. I rushed to the sink and turned it on then I washed my face while staring at myself in the mirror.

‘’what am I going to do? How do I get out of here?’’ I stared at my reflection thinking that I might have changed somehow but I was still the same person. ‘’just why me!’’ I screamed and punched the mirror hurting my knuckles in the process. ‘’I don’t deserve this,’’ I shouted.

‘’no one does,’’ a voice spoke at the entrance of the bathroom and I turned around to face a red-haired girl dressed in the same maid outfit as mine. ‘’lady Rhoda is a cruel woman and you should have known this since we have been here together for a while now.’’

‘’excuse me?’’

‘’there is no time to waste Daphne except you want Lady Rhoda to attack you again!’’ she shouted and grabbed my hand pulling me out of the bathroom. We walked out of the room and entered into another and it was then I noticed that the rooms might belong to maids. When we were finally out of the building. I noticed that there was another building and it was a mega-mansion.

It made me wonder who the owner of the house was and if it were a human that I know.

The unknown girl and I joined the rest of the girls lined up. There were about sixteen of them and I was in the last row. SUVs vans drove towards us and stopped in front of the building and driving behind was a limousine.

It made me wonder about the kind of person I was to serve and just the thought of serving someone wealthy irks me. Not only have I become a maid but to someone who would be snobbish.

Men in black came out of the SUV vans and rushed towards the limousine. They opened it opened and a woman with tanned skin came out of the car. I stared at her as if she was the most beautiful person ever. Her long blonde hair was let down and reached her shoulder. Her face was a perfectly round shape. When she looked toward us, I saw her green eyes and they shine so bright that one would think that they were the stars.

‘’welcome Lady Elena!’’ A voice sounded from inside the mega-mansion and I turned to face whosoever it was. My eyes widened when I realized that he was the man that I had saved from dying.

‘’your highness,’’ the maids paved the way as he walked in their midst accompanied by two men behind him. I didn’t bow my head and instead started walking toward him. He was their boss or much more than that. His aura screams power and even though I had no idea who he was, I was glad that I found him and I knew that it was all of the grim reapers doing.

‘’what the hell are you doing?’’ lady Rhoda whispered as I walked past her and tried to grab my hand but I slapped her hand away.

‘’you!’’ I shouted at the man that I have saved. Everyone around me gasped at what I had done but I ignored them and smiled brightly. The man turned and he looked insanely hot more than the night that I had seen him. Because I had focused my grim reaper powers on his face that night, I was able to see him.

The man turned with confusion written on his face as if he never expected that I would call him.

‘’I have finally found you,’’ I smiled as I walked towards him.
