C5
The clock struck twelve before I left my room, now dressed in a black top and shorts. My wolf kept trying to discourage me, but I shut her up.
She was so stupid sometimes. How do you try to discourage one who was trying to save her own life?
I tiptoed despite knowing werewolves had super hearing, but better to be safe than sorry. I finally found the back exit, thanks to my knowledge about kitchens.
There were no guards at the back, and hastily I made my way out into the woods. There should definitely be a path that leads out of this territory.
My ankles were beginning to hurt as I ran further into the bushes in blind haste, my heart thumping wildly in my chest. If I got caught, they could mistake me for an intruder.
I couldn't even risk turning into my wolf. They would think my scraggy form is that of a rogue.
The moon hung high in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the dense woods. Every rustle of leaves and snapping of twigs sent shivers down my spine. My breath was ragged, fear and adrenaline fueling my escape.
The darkness around me seemed to stretch endlessly, and every shadow seemed like it could be a lurking danger.
Suddenly, a distant howl echoed through the night, causing me to stumble. Panic surged within me, knowing that the pack had likely realised my absence. My wolf's warnings seemed prophetic now, as I heard a growl that made the hair on my body stand.
It was coming from behind, but I couldn't dare look back to check.
I pushed myself harder, the pain in my ankles and the burning in my chest becoming background noise to the fear coursing through my veins.
I could hear the sound of paws now, and I began to regret my decision. Wouldn't it have been better to die in the hands of my family or the queen than out here, hunted down like a wild animal.
Told you so, my wolf taunted but it wasn't time for jokes.
We were going to die.
A branch caught my leg and I felt the world shift under my leg and I fell to the forest floor with a thud, the impact knocking the wind out of me. Before I could fully comprehend what had happened, a shadowy figure lunged at me from the darkness.
A big black wolf, its eyes gleaming with an intense, predatory focus, was pouncing on me.
I tried to roll away but the wolf rested its paw on my heaving chest. The wolf lowered its face to mine and let out an annoyed growl. I swallowed as my eye caught sight of its sharp canines.
I snapped my eyes shut, mentally readying myself for the death that I befell myself.
There was silence save for my heavy breathing. I opened my eyes slowly then came face to face with the human form of my attacker.
Zadyre’s angry eyes glared at me but my eyes drifted down his naked form, stopping at the dangling muscle that hung between his legs. I realised what I was doing and I quickly snapped my eyes shut.
"Get up. Now." He growled angrily.

"Get up. Now," he growled angrily.
I scrambled to my feet, his presence both infuriating and humbling. He could have killed me if he didnt see my face. I was lucky he was the one who found me.
I avoided his stare, the tension in the air gut wrenching as the awareness that I was attempting to run away hung over our heads.
"What are you doing out here, Gabrielle?" Zadyre's voice was harsh, his face contorted with chilling anger and furiousness.
"I... I was trying to leave you and your stupid palace," I glowered, my voice filled with hatred for him and everything that surrounded him.
"Leave?" His eyes bore into mine, searching for something I couldn't fathom. "You are trying to escape from the territory of this pack? From the Alpha king? Don't you know you could have died trying?"
"I'd rather die trying than be married to you!" I yelled in his face. His eyes turned colder than I ever saw it, and he took slow steps towards me.
The confidence I felt earlier disappeared and I turned to run, but I felt all the air knock out of me as he pushed me onto a tree, his chest on mine and his face so close to mine I could see the swirls of emerald in them.
"Get off of me." I tried to push him away but he used a hand to hold both of mine above my head and grabbed my chin, forcing me to look him in the eye.
I gasped as I felt something poke my belly.
"Gabrielle," Zadyre whispered as he lowered his head into the crook of my neck, inhaling my scent sharply.
I felt a low sound escape my lips, catching me off guard.
His breath against my skin sent shivers down my spine, and I found myself frozen in place, my heart racing.
His lips brushed against the sensitive skin just below my ear, and I felt a rush of heat spread through my body. The tension in the air had shifted, the anger and defiance replaced by a charged energy that crackled between us.
I didn't want him to stop, despite the warning going off in my head.
This felt natural.
"You want to leave so bad?" He purred in my head and I nodded, not trusting myself to use my words.
"Well too bad," he pushed himself off of me, waking me from my trance.
My eyes went down to see the muscle that poked me and the length ignited both fear and something in me.
I took my eyes away and focused on his stupid face instead.
His cocky smirk appeared on his face as he took in my appearance.
"Tomorrow's our wedding. And not even the devil would make me let you go."
He turned, leaving me to look at his perfect butt instead.
As soon as he left, a maid came and led me back inside.
Then his words sank in my head.
Tomorrow's our wedding???
