Sixty-Two Miranda opened the door to the supply room, surprised to find it in darkness. She switched on the light and scanned the gaps between the shelves, seeing no sign of Kyle even though she’d followed him here from the parade ground. ‘Kyle,’ she called out, peering down each row. ‘Ugh.’ Miranda jumped as a hand touched her shoulder and she spun around, catching sight of an amused twinkle in Kyle’s eyes. ‘Where did you come from?’ ‘The roof. I needed some air.’ He strode for the door. Miranda shot in front of him. ‘You can’t keep avoiding me. I know you’ve been through a lot, but so have I. You saved my life and paid the price.’ She took his hand, her fingers grazing the marks left on his wrist by the freak’s teeth. ‘Now it’s my turn to save you.’ ‘It’s not that simple,’ he said
