Twenty-Four Miranda twirled the pen in her hands, half listening as Lieutenant Anderson gave his routine report on the previous night for the two patrols manned by headquarters, having already sat through the accounts from the lieutenants in command of each garrison. ‘My patrol only came across two infected. A quiet night all round. Maybe we’re getting on top of them.’ ‘Let’s see what tonight’s patrols bring before we start planning our retirement.’ Miranda stood.
