It was her final breaking point. She was barely hanging on. Her silence covered the four walls from the hospital room while her doctor discussed her options after examining her and announcing that she lost our baby due to the fall. She didn’t utter a word as she kept staring at her intertwined hands resting on her lap. Dressed in a hospital gown. Eyes red and puffy from all the tears she shed and the pain she had to endure mentally and physically. The doctor excused herself to give us some time to discuss her options. I touched her cheek, feeling her cold and shivering skin beneath my palm. “I’m sorry.” She whispered, her voice breaking. I nudged her chin up so that she can look at me. This was out of her control. If her mother… didn’t show up… I couldn’t even control my own emotions
