Taking up courage

1012 Words
‘What are you talking about?’ I started to feel light headed but I felt so hysterical so I burst out laughing. Everyone but Patrick looked at me with disbelief. Almost upset. Patrick-‘it’s a long story hunny, but I’m here as your guardian, how old do you think I am?’. ‘20 stupid’, I chuckled trying to contain myself. ‘We celebrated your birthday at Einstein’s diner’. ‘Well fae you probably won’t believe this as I am as beautiful as ever and have all the charms’ he winked. But he slowly approached me to gently grip my shoulders still. I stopped in my tracks and stared at this man, who I thought I have known for many years as a friend. Now I was confused and felt like I was facing yet another stranger. ‘I am 263years old.’ ‘Young I know’. He grinned at Leo but he just shot him a dirty look in return. ‘Ok now I’m defiently dreaming. Your 263? That makes me 500’, I snapped sarcastically back. Leo stepped in to try and persuade me. His t-shirt lung to his body from sweat as the humidity was rising. I loved seeing the sweat glisten on his forehead. It was so sexy. ‘Fate, I know you loved your studies and I have really enjoyed being your professor but I am not just that. I am what they call an Oracle fairy. I was once just a rumour but I had a vision to come and find you.’ ‘And here I am’ he smirked holding his arms out like a god. I was staring at his biceps when Patrick butted in tutting at my behaviour. ‘Fate, it’s time to get real. Your in danger, we’ve been protecting you from those who want to destroy what’s left of our kingdoms. Your the only left heir of the south forest lineage. Please help us…. We really believe in you. Just think all you have ever wanted… you get to have your own exploration of our world’. My mind reeled. I have always dreamed of finding something that belonged to me and have my name heard by more than just my close circle. But this sent me flying with emotions. Letitia seemed to notice me as a cold bitter breeze started to form frost along the fence line. She hushed me and as I looked up at her from my shoes unnoticed something was wrong. Her ears were twitching wildly beneath her curly bourbon hair. Dread filled her face and her eyes filled with a white reflection. If I looked close enough I saw small men running in the background with swords. Dressed in some sort of armoury. Leo ran at the other gentleman and grabbed a cloth from the straw filled floor. Underneath was a beautiful display of silvery and bronze metals. Swords, a bow and an axe wrapped with vine leaves. What is that going to be for? Plodding earthquakes the floor boards causing us all to stumble and they all grabbed a piece of armoury. Looks like they had plenty of experience in this kind of art. An eruption of wood crackled and splintered into the stables entrance. I felt my anxiety rise which caused me to grip something soft next to me. Patrick. He gripped my hand tight and turned me bending down to look straight into my face. ‘Fae!, you need to hide now. This is what we have been preparing for all this time. The guards are here to take you. Please I know you don’t know how to control your powers…’ ‘My powers? What are you talking about’ I blurted out. ‘Close your eyes and focus on my heartbeat Fae. I know you can sense it. It may not mean any sense yet but please trust me’ Leo said. I instinctively listen d hard hoping that if I closed my eyes I would wake up from this nightmare. I clenched my eyes tight and did as he asked but I wasn’t sure how his demand affected me. I suddenly felt it….it sounded almost like a bird humming. How peaceful to listen to. I started to relax and focus hard. The mist surrounding us started to disappear and I could feel the auras of all those around me. I started to feel angry as I heard the gate bolt busted open by some sort of guard. I’ve never really felt so angry in my life but for this instant, my body turned on its own doing. I was in a daze. But for what I remember I saw a large flash a few feet away from me, along with some gasps and screams from Letitia. And suddenly everything was ringing, a few seconds later I was being awoke. From the hard floor with a single pair of lips against mine. I could feel a strong pair of arms around me. Luke warm tears filled within Leo’s eyes and landed on my freckles cheeks. Why was he crying?. I felt so stiff and sore trying to sit up but Patrick ran beside Leo trying to help me up. I was no longer in the stables. But a cart, it was stunning. It had a canopy with beautiful black cosmic patterns. I was so amazed that I didn’t take in anything else. I was sitting in a bed of hay, and my hands were matted with soil and tiny bricks. I looked around me trying to gather my whereabouts. I tried to talk but the stinging returned to my ears. Leo was beside me asleep soundly on the bench. I couldn’t help but feel a small sensation of need looking down at this man. I was defiently not in a dream but I needed to know the truth. Who they were, why I was here and how do I return home. I just wanted to run and run until I curled up in my own bed. But something made me realise I was a long way from home.
