Last night... We were together

TESSA He leaned back, being cocky as usual. “If you want to see my abs, do it yourself.” “Abs?” I stepped between his thighs. “Who cares about a pack of biscuits?” He thought I was joking until my fingers reached for his shirt, landing on his chest. Disbelief flickered in his eyes. I leaned in, and started unbuttoning the buttons. “You know what you're doing, glasses,” he whispered, his breath hot against my lips. “Don't get stupid thoughts!” My fingers slid quickly beneath the sleeve of his shirt, brushing over the hard curve of his bicep as I adjusted the fabric to check another bruise. My gaze trailed down his neck, scanning the lines of clean-shaved chest and going further down to his abs. For a moment, I froze. The heat radiating off his skin was touching mine. I kept my calm, scanning the deep wound on his stomach an inch above the hem of his pants. I gently caressed my fingers through the wound, a long cut. “Is it hurting?” “If I say yes?” He tilted his head, a playful smile playing on his lips. “Be serious for once.” Like lightning, I rushed downstairs for the first-aid kit before he could stop me. By the time I came back, Kyle was still where I’d left him, broad shoulders tense, bruised knuckles flexing at his sides, those impossible blue eyes tracking my moves the second I stepped close again. The air between us thickened instantly. I set the first-aid box on the small table before slowly kneeling between his thighs. Kyle went completely still. The position was innocent enough, but the look in his eyes wasn’t. Not even close. His gaze burned into me like a predator watching a prey walk closer, widening his legs, enough for swallowing my presence. My heartbeat became unbearable. I grabbed a cotton pad from the box and moved my hand toward the cut on his stomach, my fingers almost brushing against his pants. His eyes held mine with dangerous intensity. “You should've said you wanna play the doctor, I thought you wanted to…” “Kyle Maxwell, I'm not interested in you.” God knows what he was about to say. But I knew it wasn't anything holy. He let out a soft chuckle. “You're not my type either, glasses. You’d be the last girl Kyle Maxwell will choose to date.” “The feelings are mutual,” I said, cold and rude, yet my chest felt extremely tight. *Am I upset? No way…* A shaky breath slipped from my lips as I dabbed ointment carefully over the cut. The moment my fingers brushed his skin, his jaw tightened beneath my touch. I tried focusing on the wound, but my eyes kept betraying me, lifting to his face every other second only to find him already staring at me. The silence between us felt hotter than any argument we’d ever had. “You keep looking at me like that,” he murmured huskily, “and I’m going to think you actually care.” Heat rushed across my face instantly. “This is guilt,” I focused harder on the cut, but the position only made things worse. Kneeling between his thighs, feeling his warmth surrounding me, hearing every slow breath he took, it was a struggle to think straight. “You shouldn't have fought with Snake. At least not for me. We aren't close.” Words came out of my mouth in a whisper. “That was an act of kindness, glasses.” “Kind? You?” I applied the ointment on his cut with the tip of my fingers. “You made my school life hell… In case you forgot.” He smiled, his tongue moving his upper teeth. “Is there anyone else hurt in your gang?” I asked softly. As soon as I finished cleaning the cut, Kyle’s hand caught my wrist. “Glasses.” It sounded like the devil called my name. My breath hitched instantly. “Men are wolves,” he murmured slowly. “I hope you don’t go around playing nurse to everyone.” I tugged against his grip. “Let go.” For a second, he didn’t. His gaze dropped briefly to my lips before sliding back to my eyes, dark with something that made my pulse race uncontrollably. Then I finally pulled my wrist free and rose to my feet too quickly. “Stop messing with me. Take a good rest.” I rushed out of the room, nervous and panicked. *** KYLE The next morning, a siren disrupted my sleep. “Kyle, cops are here!” Sky said, barging into the room like thunder. “Snake filed a complaint. He gave a statement that we broke into his place, destroyed everything, and beat him.” I woke up, calm and composed, put on a white t-shirt and went downstairs. They were waiting in Tessa's café. The gang stood beside me. Outside, the town people were watching. “Kyle Maxwell, you're coming with us.” Officer Evans spoke, fixing his cap on his head. “Officer, please,” Zen stepped forward. “Settle it here. Snake isn't a saint. You know that.” “We can't ignore the complaint.” He sighed. “Half of his men are hospitalized. This seems serious.” “Snake is lying!” Raven interrupted. “We were together last night.” I passed him a glance, surprised. “We already checked the CCTV of your usual place, the Devilish Chaos. Kyle left the place at eleven… alone.” “There's no point in lying anymore. You've to come with us.” “Officer Evans, he went somewhere else.” Raven kept forcing his lie. “Look…” Officer Evans stepped into my personal space, his sharp eyes threatening me. “I turned a blind eye to your illegal bike racing but that doesn't mean I'll ignore everything.” None of his words mattered until he mentioned the man I held a grudge against. “Your father warned me not to touch you. He's a powerful man. Don't force me to drag his reputation.” I closed my fingers into a tight fist, a surge of rage striking within me. “If you don't come with us…” He glanced at the junior officer behind him. “Put handcuffs on him and drag his whole gang out.” The junior officer took a step forward when a voice cut through the air. “He was with me.” When I turned to the voice, she was standing at the door, her eyes already on me. “Glasses?” She didn't care about the crowd outside. She didn't care about the cops. She walked over to my side, inches closer, and held my hand. “Last night… We were together, officer.”
