I woke up with my skull splitting in two. For three whole seconds, I just lay there with my eyes shut. Then last night came back in broken flashes.
Alistane's dark eyes. His low voice. That insane conversation about a breeding deal......
My face burned so hard I shoved the blanket over my head.
Humiliation clawed up my throat, but I forced myself to sit up anyway. Shame didn't pay hospital bills. Shame didn't keep my daughter alive inside that chamber.
I needed to talk to him again. I had to lock down the details and make sure the money was real.
The bedroom door burst open. Megan bounced onto the edge of my bed.
