Another c***k. The man screamed again. I looked up.  A tall figure, backlit by the elevator's fluorescent glow. Broad shoulders. Sharp jawline cutting through the light.  That scent hit me. Every muscle in my body went slack. The terror drained out of me so fast I almost blacked out. My lips moved before my brain caught up. "Alistane."  He crouched down in front of me. His hand hovered near my shoulder—close, but not touching. "Can you stand?"  I nodded. My legs said otherwise. They buckled the second I tried, and his arm caught me around the waist before I hit the floor again. "Easy."  Behind us, the drunk man groaned. Alistane didn't even glance back.
