DING!... DING!... DING!... Reg was awakened by the continuous notification sounds from her cell phone. With eyes still closed, she reached for the noisy culprit under her pillow. She struggled to unlock her screen with only one eye open. She had to try twice! She opened her Messenger. ______________________ Ayvs: Hey biatch! Where are you taking us today? Happy Birthday! Mel: Happy birthday, sistah! Love ya! Shall we go to Tagaytay? KC: Have a beer day! Let's take my car and go for a joyride! ______________________ After a few moments, her phone rang loudly, which completely awakened her. As soon as she pressed "JOIN VIDEO CALL", all her friends were already waiting. And when her face appeared, they greeted her at the same time. "Thank you, besties!" She replied sweetly and made a heart sign with her fingers just like Koreans on TV do. "So birthday girl, tomorrow at 6 am. Let's meet up at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in Uptown,” Ayvs announced excitedly. "And don’t be late, Mel!" He singled out Mel and pointed in her direction through the camera. "Hey! Why do you always pick on me…”? The accused chuckled guiltily. "To be fair, Mel has changed." Reg was coming to her defense. "See! That's right, I have changed." "Last time we met up, she was only late for 30 minutes, not the standard one hour!" Mel pursed her lips as the rest of the group laughed. They were always like this for as long as Reg could remember. Although they didn't go out together as much as they used to, it always felt like no time had elapsed. They still loved making fun of each other! For the six years, they have all been friends, nothing changed between them. They still enjoyed laughing at each other and laughing together. "Hey! Stop making fun of me," Mel complained. "Wait, where's that coffee place again?" "It's at 35th Street, remember Reg?" Mel answered. "Girl, you just turned 27 like half an hour ago and you're showing signs of memory loss!" KC teased her. Everyone laughed. Now, it was Regina's turn to be teased. "Biatch, that's where we met up last time." Ayvs also reminded her. "Huh? When?" Reg was suddenly confused. "My gosh, like three weeks ago!" She was even more confused now. Although she could recall the place, she couldn't remember meeting Ayvs three weeks ago there or anywhere. "Are you sure... it was me you met?" She asked him suspiciously. Ayvs looked confused as well. Then, his eyes lightened as if his memory was coming back. He put one hand over his mouth like he said something he wasn't supposed to reveal. "Ooooppppssss," was all he could say. "Who did you meet from Grinder last month?" Asked the inquisitive KC. "KristoPER Columbus, mind your own business!" Ayvs blurted in an attempt to dismiss their friend's question. "Ivan, don't change the subject." KC wouldn't let it go. The two girls laughed. They found it quite funny when their gay friends called each other by their male names. "You are such a promiscuous gay boy, Ivan." "Krusty Crab, you're just jealous!" And he stuck his tongue out to KC who rolled her eyes in turn. They noticed Reg and Mel kept chuckling. "You two, stop giggling like someone's tickling you down there!" Ayvs teased them. And their jaws dropped as if they couldn't believe Ayvs would be that vulgar. Then they laughed together. "Seriously though, who did you meet at that time?" Reg wouldn't let him get away from the question. "Uhm, just someone." Ayvs was tight-lipped. They all just gave him "the eye." He rolled his eyes and acted like he didn't have any other choice but to talk about it. "Uhm, just someone who looks like Shawn Mendez!" He started bragging. "Hhhmmm..." The three chorused. They knew their friend really well and he had a tendency to exaggerate facts. "Last time you said we were meeting your date who looks like Harry Styles." Reg began. "Yes!" Ayvs smiled a little, recalling the guy. "Except he didn't look like Harry Styles. He looked more like a Tyrion Lannister!" Reg teased. The other two laughed loudly. "Well, we know our friend, his standards are high but his dates always fall SHORT!" And KC began the height reference jokes. They all burst out laughing! "Girls, we shouldn't LOOK DOWN on him!" Reg joined in. "What happened to that guy anyway?" Mel was trying to keep a straight face before delivering the punchline. "Is he keeping a LOW profile?" She continued. "Ha! Ha!" Ayvs made a face but later on, ended up laughing with them anyway. "Girls, we are so bad." Mel was trying to be serious. "Yes, you are! There's a special place in hell for you biatches!" Ayvs crossed his arms and rolled his eyes at them. "And he was 5'2'' FYI!" He tried to defend the guy. "Fine." The three chorused again. "So, what's wrong with your recent lover aka Shawn Mendez look-alike?" "Wait, why am I in the hot seat when it's your birthday, biatch!" He complained as he tried to divert their attention to her. "Because my dear friend, I don't meet Harry Styles or Shawn Mendez look-alikes? So please, let me live vicariously through you!" She said, ready to hear some juicy stuff. "Then my dear princess, why don't you just start dating again so you can meet hot guys too!" Ayvs pointed out. "Yes! Let's put an end to your dry spell." Mel was nudging her into the hot seat. "I’m alright. All good. I don't need a man to make me happy." She responded defensively. "Of course, Miss Independent woman! But there's nothing wrong with putting yourself out there again." KC looked at her meaningfully. "Out there is a disaster waiting to happen!" Reg wanted to kill the topic as soon as possible before it got too hot in her seat. "Aaarrrgghhhhh! You're no fun!" Ayvs gave up. Thank Heavens! "Anyway, let's meet at six sharp, alright?" KC reminded them. "I'll bring the snacks." Mel always brought the snacks. "Thank you, mum!" They said in unison. They said their goodbyes and ended the call.
