Chapter 8 — Office Whispers
By lunchtime, rumors had already spread throughout Beaumont Enterprises.
Because unfortunately…
everyone noticed the way Jace looked at Clara.
Not openly.
Not obviously.
But enough.
Enough for jealous whispers to start immediately.
Inside the elevator, Clara overheard two employees talking quietly.
“That’s the intern?”
“She’s prettier than I expected.”
“No wonder the CEO noticed her.”
Clara clenched her jaw instantly.
She hated it.
She wanted recognition for her work.
Not because people thought she was attractive.
Unfortunately…
she was both beautiful and intelligent.
Which apparently made people even more bitter.
Later during a contract meeting, Clara corrected an error that several senior employees missed.
The room went silent afterward.
One employee blinked in surprise. “That’s actually impressive.”
Vanessa’s expression darkened immediately.
Meanwhile, Lily looked ready to explode with pride.
“That’s my best friend,” she whispered dramatically.
Another intern named Sophia rolled her eyes openly.
Sophia Lang was beautiful, elegant, rich…
and already hated Clara.
Mostly because Adrian kept giving Clara important assignments personally requested by Jace.
Which never happened.
Ever.
Sophia folded her arms coldly. “Some people clearly get special treatment.”
The room became awkward instantly.
Before Clara could answer, Adrian appeared beside them.
“Miss Monroe.”
Everyone turned immediately.
“Mr. Beaumont requested your presence upstairs.”
Sophia looked ready to combust.
Lily nearly choked trying not to laugh.
