Chapter 9-Jace Beaumont

220 Words
Chapter 9 — Jace Beaumont Jace’s office overlooked the entire Manhattan skyline. Floor-to-ceiling windows reflected sunlight across dark marble floors while expensive artwork decorated the walls. Everything about the office screamed power. Including him. Jace stood near his desk reviewing contracts when Clara entered. Without looking up, he spoke calmly. “Close the door.” The moment the door shut, tension filled the room instantly. Clara crossed her arms. “You’re the CEO.” Jace finally looked up. “And you disappeared this morning.” Her cheeks heated instantly. “You disappeared first.” One corner of his mouth lifted faintly. “You were sleeping.” “So that means sneaking away was acceptable?” Jace walked toward her slowly. Every movement felt controlled. Dangerously controlled. “I didn’t think you’d want breakfast after trying to escape my penthouse at sunrise.” Clara blinked. “You saw that?” “You’re not subtle.” Unfortunately… he wasn’t wrong. Jace stopped directly in front of her. Close enough to make her nervous again. “You should avoid being alone with me here,” he murmured. Clara swallowed hard. “Why?” His eyes darkened slightly. “Because I already know what you sound like when I kiss you.” Her entire body heated instantly. And somehow… that only made him smirk.
