Chapter 11 — Jealousy
The tension between the Beaumont brothers became impossible to ignore.
Especially for Clara.
Whenever Pierce spoke to her too long, Jace became colder.
Whenever Jace touched Clara accidentally during meetings, Pierce noticed immediately.
And unfortunately…
everyone else noticed too.
During lunch break, Sophia cornered Clara near the restroom.
“I don’t understand girls like you.”
Clara frowned. “Girls like me?”
Sophia laughed bitterly. “Pretending to be innocent while getting attention from powerful men.”
Clara’s expression hardened instantly. “I earned my internship.”
“Sure you did.”
Before Clara could respond, another voice interrupted coldly.
“Is there a problem?”
Sophia’s face changed immediately.
Jace stood nearby wearing a dark suit and dangerous expression.
Sophia straightened quickly. “No, Mr. Beaumont.”
“Then leave.”
Sophia practically fled.
Clara sighed heavily. “You really don’t help the rumors.”
Jace stepped closer slightly. “And you care too much about what people think.”
Easy for him to say.
He wasn’t the one being judged constantly.
For a moment neither spoke.
Then unexpectedly, Jace reached up and brushed a strand of hair behind Clara’s ear gently.
The simple gesture felt far too intimate.
Especially at work.
Especially when employees nearby were definitely watching.
Clara whispered sharply: “People can see us.”
Jace’s expression remained calm.
“Let them see"
it makes it even more fun to me Clara..
