Fiction Business Travelby Mike Aaron Felix Winters was enjoying a paperback on his balcony and thinking about what to have for dinner that night—he had seen a recipe in the New York Times cooking section for grilled octopus, and he thought it would be a pleasurable challenge. You had to boil the octopus before you grilled it, and if the water wasn’t seasoned quite right or left on too long or not long enough, it would all be ruined. The phone rang and he recognized the number (he never saved numbers), and he knew that dinner would not happen.
