I was frozen, trapped by the sheer shock of it. My body trembled uncontrollably, and the raw fear I felt for Alexander, for what he had become in that moment, was overwhelming. He took a slow step towards me, his eyes softening, the red receding to their usual piercing gold, but the intensity remained. "Lilian," he rasped, his voice rough with emotion. He reached for me, his blood-stained hand stretching towards my face.
