Chapter 7 : Stability at work, but...

1000 Words
It was a happy night, filled with warmth and tranquility for Jessica, as she had found a place to stay and applied for a job in the town on her very first day. She felt that luck was on her side that day, unlike William, whose night was filled with tension and unease. He felt exhausted and mentally drained from overthinking, unable to find peace that night. -- -- -- -- -- -- --- *(Two Days Later)* *(At Jessica's Residence - Inside the White Rose Hotel)* Jessica: I opened my eyes, trying to shake off the drowsiness, and looked at my phone to see what time it was. Oh, it's 10 a.m. I looked around and remembered that I was staying at the White Rose Hotel, the one William had told me about, which is located next to the company. Suddenly, I heard the doorbell ring. I was startled for a moment and quickly put on some appropriate clothes to answer the door. When I opened the door, no one was there. I looked left and right, but there was no one. However, I noticed something on the ground. Oh, it’s an envelope. I opened it eagerly, as if I were hungry for food, and found good news inside the letter—news filled with reassurance and safety. “Thank God, thank God,” I repeated several times, quickly in joy. I rushed to get ready to buy new clothes and to find places that sell elegant and colorful attire. -- -- -- -- -- -- --- Akira was sitting in his office, leaning back and relaxed, until his assistant walked in and said, “I have urgent news, sir.” Akira lowered his feet and sat upright again, his face stern, demanding a quick response. “Tell me what you have!” “The spy team you recently sent has informed me that Jessica has indeed been accepted for the job at William's company and will start work tomorrow.” Akira was the arrogant type, never understanding what had happened. He expected the matter to end with her rejection and her easy return to Japan. Akira couldn't bear this news; he placed his hand on his face, breathing heavily, releasing the winds of anger through his breaths, only for his veins to absorb them again. “You started this, Jessica,” Akira said to himself, as his assistant, still standing in the office, felt confused and scared but said nothing. Suddenly, Akira looked at his assistant, shouting at him, ordering him to prepare to send many, many men to Canada. Akira’s assistant, Hinata, didn’t dare to question him or even stay in front of him any longer. He simply said, “As you wish, sir,” and left immediately. Hinata felt that Akira was about to do something harsh and reckless in Canada, which could endanger the lives of many, except, of course, his own. But he didn’t have the courage to speak up. Although Hinata often disliked what Akira did, he remained silent for two reasons: the money he received and the fact that leaving work with Akira wasn’t as easy as Jessica was trying to do. Akira wasn’t a good person, and Hinata knew that very well. -- -- -- -- -- -- --- **(The Welcoming Ceremony for New Employees)** William’s company usually held a small party on the same day the new employees began working, so the executives and important figures in the company could welcome them, making their start more energetic and exciting. The new employees stood in a line amidst cheers and applause, and among them was the Japanese employee, Jessica. Although Jessica’s English wasn’t very good yet, she could understand people well, and she was like a glowing candle in the room. Her beauty made everyone who saw her want to talk to her, and from the very first day, she gained great respect from the senior executives because she was a foreigner and also because she was calm, very respectful, and had an impressive work history in Japan. After all the executives, including William, finished shaking hands with the new employees, everyone left except William. He approached Jessica, lowering his head next to her ear, and said, “Congratulations on successfully passing the final test.” Jessica didn’t expect William to get that close, so she gently moved her head back, looking at him and saying, “Thank you, sir.” William looked at her, smiling. Sophia was watching them and didn’t like what she saw at all. She thought everything had become clear. Indeed, after two weeks, everyone, including William’s father, noticed how William was noticeably getting closer to Jessica in the company, treating her as if she were a special employee, not like the others. After another two weeks, Jessica had been working at the company for 3 months when William announced her promotion. There was a party for her in the company, attended by everyone except Sophia. When William’s father asked her why she was absent that day, she told him that she was tired and couldn’t make it. Both William and his father knew she was making excuses and that something else was going on. -- -- -- -- -- -- --- **A Month Later, On a Normal Morning** Jessica got up from bed energetically, getting ready to wash her face and head to work. She was still staying at the White Rose Hotel that William had recommended. After showering and putting on her work clothes, Jessica grabbed the door handle to leave but quickly remembered she had forgotten something. She turned around, looking for her phone, and found it, but the screen was already lit, catching her attention. “A message from a private number” - Tap to view Jessica put her bag down and grabbed the phone to read the message: “You must leave this job immediately and return to Japan as soon as possible, or you will have condemned yourself to torment.”
