The Queen of Fortune CHAPTER XII What could I have done? Still no trace of the eyeless soothsayer and, to make matters worse, I was stranded in a foreign city, having lost all the money I had, from the first coin to the last! Being left hopeless, I asked a trader for directions to a place where I could pawn my cloak and the few pieces of jewelry of some worth I was left with, and he told me how to get to a shop located in the lowest ring of the city. It then befell that, while I was queuing at the pawnshop, I was approached by a woman sitting there, who asked me to get closer to her. As soon as I had, I realized ‘she’ was actually a man, wearing make-up and a dress in a ladylike fashion.
