ALEX For a few seconds, I just stood there, frozen in place, my eyes locked on her. Then, slowly, a small smile tugged at the corners of my lips. Without saying a word, I gently guided her toward the house. We walked through the living room, and didn’t stop until we reached the kitchen, the warm lighting bouncing softly off the marble countertops. “Have you had dinner yet?” I asked, glancing over my shoulder at her. She shook her head, a faint sigh escaping her. “I was too busy at the warehouse.” I wasn’t surprised, that answer was exactly what I’d expected.
