David sat in his car and stared at his house. It was the last place he wanted to be in the world. He missed them more just looking at it, and he knew it would be worse once he went inside.
He tried to go to Daniel’s, but he was in pain and not good company, or so he’d said. Mike was doing something at the school with Kristen, so he’d been forced to come home instead. Now, he’d been sitting here for half an hour, trying to convince himself to go in.
Taking a deep breath, he cut off the engine and stepped out into the cold. He left his bag in the back, just in case he decided not to stay, and headed for the porch.
