CHAPTER 4

Cedric’s POV I ran faster and faster; fuelling myself with the anger and irritation that had been bubbling within me. Those bastards! How dare they conspire against our packs! If it was in my hands, I would have killed Alpha Elliot at this very moment. I growled through my barred teeth in an attempt to restrain the infuriated howl that was building at my core. I felt so angry. I wanted to destroy something. I needed to destroy something. “Owwww!!!!” A high-pitched howl resounded; making my steps falter. There was a certain underlying sweetness to the voice; a rhythm that stirred at the strings of my heart. My pulse rose with the crescendo. My heart filled with longing as the voice dwindled plunging me back into silence. I found myself running in the direction of the voice. My ears perked up; eager to hear her voice again. I wondered how my mate looked in her wolf form. What would be the color of her fur? Judging by her hair and the color of her eyes, she was probably a brown wolf. Snap! The sharp twang of the snapping twig put me on high alert. Slowing down to a trot, I focused all my senses on scanning my surroundings. F***! There were at least four of them. How didn’t I notice it earlier? There was no point in running. They would catch up with me sooner or later. It was better to face them headlong and get this over with. I stopped in an open area and took an attacking stance. Thuds, crunches, and soft growls grew louder and louder as they drew closer. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw two wolves emerging from the bushes to my right. They were white wolves, lanky but agile and swift. They slowed down to a trot when they were a few yards away from me. The wolf on the left flashed its sharp canines and let out a growl of warning. I kept my eyes focused on them; preparing to counter them if they attacked. A soft growl behind me; indicating that the other two wolves were right behind me. It was impertinent that I found out the wolf type if I wanted to win. So, I spun around with a swift move. My eyes widened in surprise to see the huge black wolves with deep yellow eyes. What were they doing here? They usually kept to the northern territories. I could easily kill both the white wolves but facing two black wolves at the same time could be challenging. I kept my eyes locked on them. The white wolves had closed in on me and I could feel their breath against my skin. It wasn’t a great idea to make the first move as I was outnumbered. The best course of action would be to stay on the defensive. Time ticked by slowly but they merely stood there. Every few seconds they would shift their positions slightly. God knows what they were waiting for… My heart throbbed in my ears and my breathing grew heavier. This wait was getting excruciating. They were probably trying to get me flustered. A frustrated growl escaped my lips. F*** them! I wasn’t going to let them have their way. I closed my eyes for a moment, picturing the moves I was about to make. Zip! Zap! Two arrows appeared out of nowhere and hit the black wolves. I watched in wonder as they dropped to the ground instantly. Two more arrows flew right past me and hit the white wolves behind me. My nose twitched as a familiar scent hit me. Justin? I didn’t think he had it in him to kill people. “Cedric? Are you okay?” His anxious voice sounded as he came running towards me. A deep sigh escaped my lips. I can’t say that I was happy to see him but he did save me the effort of dealing with the wolves. I shifted to my human form and wore the clothes Justin had brought for me. I was buttoning up my shirt when I saw the white wolf roll to its side. My eyebrows furrowed. Wasn’t it supposed to be dead? “What was the arrow layered with?” “Gelsemium.” “Why didn’t you use the ones with wolfsbane?” Justin’s eyes swept over the wolves lying on the ground, “Wouldn’t wolfsbane kill them?” My jaws clenched and I gritted out, “Don’t you think they deserve to die for ambushing me?” “I…I thought you were avoiding a m******e….” My anger dwindled to a certain level. It was certainly bothersome to get rid of so many bodies. “Let’s go… Alpha must be waiting for us….” I said simply and started walking again. We took the main path this time. It lead to the main road where my car was parked. My mind veered to my mate as we sat in the car and drove away. A longing sigh escaped my lips. I never got to see her wolf form. In a way, it was good. It would have been difficult to keep my wolf under control. I could return once the conspiracy was quashed…. *** A week later… I sat on the leather couch; my right leg crossed over the right one. My eyes remained fixed on the list as I imagined killing them one by one. “Cedric, Why didn’t you just come and find me? Why the formality of sending a message?” A deep sound with a husky timber sounded. “Alpha,” I greeted; standing up and bowing immediately. “You were with your Luna. I didn’t want to disturb you.” He snorted and shook his head, “Don’t call her that in front of me! Is she even qualified to be called the Luna of this pack?” His voice shook with anger and despair, “Eight years, Cedric. It has been eight years yet she hasn’t even given me an heir.” My body stiffened as he placed his hand on my shoulder, “You tell me, Cedric? How can I be happy with such a worthless woman?” Vanessa was a very talented woman; kind, caring, and firm when needed. She was befitting to be the luna of this pack. But, I couldn’t say that to my Alpha. It was not my place to speak about his relationships. Letting out a deep sigh, I changed the topic, “I have completed my investigation.” I handed him the list as I continued, “The Alphas liaising with Alpha Elliot are Alpha Housten from Burberry Pack, Leopold from Dunkes Pack, Alpha Long from the Hyunhang Pack….” “Alpha Long? That is not possible. We have been friends for eight years, Cedric.” I lowered my gaze, “I have conducted my investigation sincerely. I can open up my mind to you if you want.” His hand dropped from my shoulders. “I am not doubting your loyalty, Cedric. It’s just that….” He threw up his hands in frustration, “I am just finding it difficult to accept the fact that Alpha Long is betraying me.” His eyes blazed red with anger, “Send a message to Alpha Elliot that we will visit him after the full moon.” His voice hardened with determination as he continued, “I am going to make such an example of him that nobody will dare to betray me again.” His words were like honey to my ears. I was dying to teach that moron a lesson. “How many comrades should we take along, Alpha?” “None,” His reply shocked me to the core. I had thought that Alpha Dimon would want to wipe out his entire pack. “We both will go there alone and I will find an excuse to challenge that bastard for an open combat.” His voice dropped to a dangerously low tone, “I will rip out his throat in front of everyone.” “Wouldn’t it be better to take an army of werewolves and wipe out the pack entirely?” Alpha Dimon snorted and shook his head, ‘There is no need to give that puny i***t so much importance. He doesn’t deserve even a respectable death.” “But, Alpha….” I tried to reason with him but he raised his hand and ordered. “Just make the arrangements, Cedric. I assure you that you won’t be disappointed.” Now that Alpha Dimon had already made up his mind, I could only follow his orders. I sent a message to the Bloodhound Pack that Alpha Dimon and I would make a friendly visit two days after the full moon….
