Chapter 8

Diana POV I'm in a forest, though I don't know which forest. I've never been here before. My vision is clear and my eyes are sharp. Sharper than normally, actually. I'm walking around this forest, trying to pick up a scent that will guide me anywhere. It feels like I'm walking for hours, though I don't mind it. The forest is quiet and light and birds are singing. It's not long before I reach a body of water and realize I am pretty parched.  I go to have a drink of water, but when I look into the river, it is not my own face staring back at me. I see a wolf with brilliant white fur. It almost seems to sparkle in the sunlight. Is that me? Am I that wolf? I tilt my head, and my reflection tilts her head as well. It is me! I'm ecstatic, could this dream be showing me my wolf? I'm beautiful, with my lilac eyes and diamond fur. I stand tall and proud and a warm feeling fills my chest.  Suddenly, I pick up on a sound, a rustling of leaves. I turn around to see what it is, but I see nothing. Suddenly, the scene goes dark and changes.  When I can finally see again, I see a familiar village up in flames. I see fae and fairy warriors fighting at the side of werewolves, fending of the rogues, whom I recognize by their foul scent. My snout scrunches at it and I feel myself moving towards the rubble. Ready to strike. Then I see them, dead bodies everywhere. I see my father, Marc, Marie, Katie, Daniel, Joshua, mom just lying there. Mom? What is mom doing here. She passed away a long time ago already. Why are they dead? They need to wake up, I need them to wake up. I need them!  I panic and thrash wildly around me at any rogue that even dares to come close. I strike down wolves left and right, my vision going red. One massive black wolf lunges at me and...  Panting I open my eyes to find myself upright in bed. Joshua stirs next to me. What time is it? Where am I? Is everyone okay? I think to myself. I stroke Joshua's face and kiss his forehead. At the contact I feel a little snap in the back of my mind and I hear a voice.  "Diana." "Who said that?" I reply out loud, to which Joshua shoots up awake and alert, claws drawn.  "You okay, babe? You heard something?" He says. "Yes, I did. Can we go check it out?" I reply. I hear giggling in my head.  "You can go look, but you won't find anyone." I hear. "What was that?" I say. "What was what?" Joshua asks. "That voice!" "What voice?" "The voice that just said 'you can go look, but you won't find anyone', duh." "There is no voice, my love." No voice, huh? But if there's no voice, then that must mean it's in my head. 'Are you my wolf?' I think to myself. Joshua is staring at me.  'Why yes, nice to meet ya. The name's Kysandra. I had a hell of a time breaking through that wall of yours. I'm so glad you lowered it a bit when you met your mate.' 'Wow, so I really do have a wolf. I'm so glad you're here!' 'Me too, darling, me too. Now say, why are you not all over that gorgeous piece of man right there? He's divine!' 'Calm down, Kys. Can I call you that? I want to take it slow.' 'Ugh, as long as you don't wait too long, I want something too, you know. Kys is fine, I like it.' 'Haha, of course you do.' I smile. 'What do you make of that dream we just had? It was pretty freaky, right?' 'Yeah, take some extra precaution the coming weeks, wouldn't want that to become a reality.' "My princess?" Joshua asks. "Are you talking to your wolf?" His eyes gleam in the darkness. "Yes, my love. She's finally come to me, I'm so happy! It's with your help that she managed to break through the barrier." Joshua cheers, takes my face in his hands and places a kiss on my lips. The sensation is phenomenal. I laugh. "Shhh Josh, you're going to wake up the whole castle!" I tell him and steal another kiss. His lips are so soft and delicious. I become lightheaded and my entire being is covered in sparks as he wraps his arms around me and deepens the kiss. I turn to jelly. "I'm so happy for you." He whispers, his voice gruff and low and he keeps pecking my lips, before lying back down, still having me wrapped in his arms. "What is her name?" He asks. "Kysandra, but I can call her Kys. I love her already."  "Of course you do, babe, she's half of you. I can't wait to meet her. Do you think you'll shift soon." I hear Kys's voice in my head again. 'Not yet, we have to wait until the full moon before our first shift. This is essential!' I relay the information to Joshua and I feel his smile against my skin.  "I think I can wait that long." He says. "That's less than two weeks away. We just have to make sure your father doesn't command you to shift. Which would be highly unlikely anyway." "Do you know what this means?" I say. "Tell me, my princess." "I can take over for my father soon and relieve him of some of his work. He may actually have time to sleep at night soon! And there's also our mating ceremony, of course. Things are picking up." I kiss Joshua again, before crawling on top of him. Enveloped in his warmth, I go back to sleep.
