Back in Eldridge, the village was abuzz with talk of the ancient tree and the shadows. Elara, Alaric, and Finn knew they needed more information if they were to solve the mystery. They decided to visit the old library, a repository of ancient texts and forgotten knowledge.

Miriam led them to a section of the library filled with ancient texts. "Start with these. They contain stories and legends about the forest and its guardians."

The trio spent hours poring over the books, searching for any mention of the shadows or the ancient oak tree. They found references to a guardian spirit known as the "Shadow Warden," a protector of the forest who maintained the balance between the human world and the supernatural.

Elara's eyes widened as she read further. "The Shadow Warden was said to be a powerful entity, capable of controlling the shadows and communicating with the spirits of the forest. It was revered by the ancient villagers, who offered it tributes to ensure their safety."

Finn leaned over, reading along with her. "It says here that the Warden's power was bound to a sacred tree, the very tree we found in the forest. If the Warden is involved, it could explain the shadows and Thomas' disappearance."

Alaric frowned. "But why would the Warden target a child? What does it want?"

Elder Miriam approached, her expression grave. "The balance has been disturbed. The Warden may be trying to restore it, but its methods are beyond our understanding. You must be cautious."

Elara closed the book, her mind racing. "We need to find a way to communicate with the Warden, to understand its intentions and find a way to protect the village."

As they left the library, the weight of their discovery settled over them. The Shadow Warden was a formidable foe, and the path ahead was fraught with danger. But they were determined to uncover the truth and save their village from the shadows that threatened to consume it.
