The Chain Ogre's roar thundered through the abandoned station. Concrete rained from the ceiling as the giant monster charged forward, dragging broken chains behind it. Each step shook the platform, leaving deep cracks in the floor.
Kael didn't move. His eyes remained fixed on the monster. His heartbeat slowed and his breathing became steady. Ten years of experience told him one thing–a panicked fighter died first but a calm fighter survived.
The glowing blue notification hovered before him.
[Temporary Skill Available:Time Acceleration]
[Duration: 30 Seconds]
[Activation: Manual]
Kael whispered,"...Now."
A surge of silver energy erupted from his body. The world instantly changed. The falling dust slowed. The swinging chains crawled through the air even the ogre's charge became sluggish, as though time itself had thickened.
[Time Acceleration Activated]
[30...]
Kael shot forward. To him, everything felt normal. To the monster, he had become a blur. He slipped beneath the ogre's massive fist just as it smashed into the ground.
The platform exploded into pieces.
Without stopping, Kael sprinted toward the creature's side and drove a powerful kick into its knee and the ogre staggered.
"...Twenty-seven seconds." Its enormous hand swept sideways. Kael activated Time Step. A flash of silver light carried him five meters away. The giant's claws sliced through empty air.
"So far, so good." He quickly scanned the battlefield. The System had mentioned a Corruption Core. If he destroyed it, the seal would stabilize but where was it?
The ogre attacked again, swinging one of its heavy chains. Kael ducked, the chain slammed into a pillar behind him. The entire structure collapsed and dust filled the tunnel. Kael narrowed his eyes then he saw it.
Behind the monster...a black crystal floated above a broken altar.
Dark energy continuously flowed from the crystal into the stone gate.
"The Corruption Core."
Destroying the ogre wasn't necessary but destroying the crystal was.
[23 Seconds Remaining]
The Chain Ogre suddenly turned, realizing what Kael had noticed. It planted itself directly between him and the crystal.
"So you can think."
The monster roared and pounded its chest.
A crimson aura burst from its body. Its muscles swelled and the broken chains wrapped around its arms like giant whips.
Kael frowned,"It just powered up."
He couldn't afford a prolonged fight not with the timer counting down.
[20 Seconds Remaining]
The ogre lunged. Kael sidestepped with Time Step, appearing beside a fallen support beam. An idea flashed through his mind,"If I can't overpower it...I'll outsmart it."
He grabbed the cracked steel beam with both hands. Using all his strength, he wedged it beneath one of the station's damaged pillars. The ogre charged again and Kael smiled,"Come on."
The monster swung both fists downward.
Kael vanished a split second before impact.
The fists crashed into the weakened pillar.
The pillar shattered and the ceiling groaned.
Massive chunks of concrete collapsed onto the ogre. The creature roared in pain as several tons of debris buried its lower body.
It struggled violently but it was trapped.
[13 Seconds Remaining]
Kael sprinted toward the altar. Dark mist poured from the floating crystal.
The closer he came, the colder the air became. The crystal pulsed like a living heart. He could hear whispers of promises and threats,"You cannot stop what is coming..."
"You will lose them all again..."
Kael ignored every word,"I've already heard worse."
He clenched his fist then punched the crystal with everything he had.
A small fracture appeared but not enough.
The crystal remained intact.
Behind him, the ogre let out a furious roar.
It was breaking free. Kael gritted his teeth,"Damn it!"
[7 Seconds Remaining]
He looked around desperately. His eyes landed on one of the ogre's broken chains lying nearby and an idea formed instantly.
He wrapped the heavy chain around the crystal, then pulled with all his strength.
The chain tightened, then the ogre surged forward at that exact moment.
Still dragging tons of rubble, it instinctively yanked the other end of the chain.
The crystal couldn't withstand the opposing forces and it exploded into thousands of fragments.
A blinding silver light engulfed the station.
The dark mist disappeared instantly. The enormous stone gate stopped trembling.
The broken chains around it glowed before repairing themselves. The Chain Ogre froze.
The crimson flames in its eyes flickered,Its stone body slowly crumbled into dust.
Without the Corruption Core, it no longer had the power to exist. The giant looked at Kael one last time and then vanished.
[Time Acceleration Ended]
The silver aura around Kael disappeared.
An overwhelming wave of exhaustion struck him and his legs gave out. He collapsed onto one knee, breathing heavily,"I... made it."
A series of cheerful notifications appeared.

Before he could examine the rewards, a slow clap echoed through the station. Kael's smile vanished,he looked toward the darkness. A tall figure wearing a long black cloak stepped into the dim light. The stranger's face remained hidden beneath a hood only a pair of glowing golden eyes could be seen.
"You've exceeded my expectations," the mysterious figure said.
Kael immediately rose to his feet despite his exhaustion,"Who are you?"
The stranger tilted his head. Instead of answering, he asked a question of his own,"Tell me, Time Traveler...How much do you remember about the end of the world?"
Kael's pupils contracted. His grip tightened.
No one...no one should know he had come from the future.
The hooded figure smiled. Then, without another word, space twisted around them.
In the blink of an eye...the stranger disappeared.
