... Father?

1132 Words
The next day I awoke in his arms, I felt so safe and at peace. In my entire life this was the safest and the happiest I've felt. I never wanted this moment to end, but then I realized how could I be at peace when the world around me is in chaos? I immediately sat up and moved to the corner of the bed, trying my best not to wake him. I grabbed my shoes and quietly left. I made my way through the streets trying to find my way back to the movie theater, but I ended up getting so lost that I couldn't even find my way back to the house. I wandered for hours just hoping that I'd find my father, but every turn I took he was never there. I couldn't bring myself to believe that my father was gone, until I saw his body myself I can't believe it. He's the only family I have, so I told myself at that moment that I'd find my father no matter what. I searched every store and house I could find, but there was nothing. That was until I came across this open store, I slowly made my way inside and that's when I saw it. That thing with its nasty smile and empty eye sockets. It was standing over the lifeless body of a girl, her face was torn in two from her mouth. The top of her head was in its hands and the lower half of her mouth was hanging on a tread to her neck. The creature then puts the piece of her head to its mouth and licks it with that distorted smile. After what felt like ages it puts the girl's head down, takes its hands and finds her body. It takes those bloody hands and rips her apart piece by piece. It starts with the arms, then her chest, and finally it rips her legs off. I didn't even realize at that moment that I should have run away, I was too baffled to even make a sound. Once I came to I slowly backed away and hit the wall. I sat there just looking at that gruesome site, I couldn't believe it. How can a creature that looks so much like us, be such an animal. I thought this could have happened to my father, I shook my head and said to myself, " No you have to hope for the best, your father is fine." I gained my composure and slowly got up and made my way to the door. Once I was outside I went back to one of the abandoned houses, because it was getting dark outside it's best I made my way to somewhere safe for the night. Once I was inside the abandoned house I checked each room carefully. Turning each corner of the house made me even more fearful. I couldn't get what happened earlier out of my mind, "what if I run into that thing here" I thought. When I finished checking that house I made my way upstairs into one of the rooms. I closed the door, locked it and sat in the bed, but I never once closed my eyes. I was too scared to sleep in that house all by myself, I couldn't stop thinking that when I closed my eyes that the creature would be right above me slowly bringing its hands towards my body to rip me apart. The next morning, I was tired, but I knew what I had to do. I got out of the bed and slowly made my way down stairs and to the front door. Once I was outside I made my way down the street just trying to find my way to the movie theater, or whatever was left of it. I kept walking, telling myself, “ One foot in front of the other, you'll find your way there.” after many lefts and rights and lefts and rights, I found myself in front of the place it all started, the movie theater. Seeing the outside barely hanging on by a thread I saw flashes of what happened that day. My father, the old man at the counter, the screams, the pain, fear and the one thing that's engraved in my mind is that creature. I took a moment to compose myself before I went in, stepping inside of the theater felt worse than ever before. I thought to myself at that moment what if my father isn't even here, then this would be pointless, right? I shook my head trying to clear my mind, but once I did the paranoia set in. I walked back to the place where it all happened, once inside the scene of dead bodies crushed or ripped apart slowly decaying. The smell of rotting flesh and old musty blood filling my nose as I made my way back to the bloodied seat my body was once in, only made my stomach turn. Once I was at that bloody seat I felt a knot in my throat scared of what I might see in the seat my father was in. I forced myself to look up, but what I saw in front of me brought me to my knees. As I saw my father's lifeless body in that chair, his head caved in from the pieces that fell from the roof, tears filled my eyes. I cried and screamed hysterically for what felt like a lifetime. Remembering all the good times I had with my father, I sat there just reliving every memory we shared together. I didn't want to move. I wanted to stay there forever, right by his side. I don't know how many hours had passed, or even if I had been there for days, but when I got up I was a numb empty shell of the young women I was. Drained, with a heavy body I slowly made my way out of the theater, never wanting to look back again. I walked in a trance until I had eventually hit the ground, not wanting to walk anymore I sat there and somehow drifted off to sleep. Even in my sleep I was haunted by my father, his bloody body at least blaming me for his death. He constantly said with his cave in head, “ You did this to me, it was you, all you, why, why, why? Throughout that entire dream it was just him looking at me saying that, I awoke to something pushing against me, not wanting or having the strength to fight anymore I was willing to accept whatever fate had in store, even if it was my death. I opened my eyes, but what met me wasn't death.
