Chapter 1

1124 Words
Hey, my name is Bianca, no last name, because I'm a bastard through and through. Everyone thinks I should regret being a bastard, but the truth is I don't because being a bastard has made me the person I am today. I've learned to fight for what I truly desire, to stand tall even when others look down on me. In a world where bastards are treated like some kind of plague, I've had to be stronger, smarter, and more determined than anyone else. So no, I don't regret being a bastard. In fact, I accept it. It's who I am. It is my badge of honor. Today, I will be bestowed with the highest honor that a female werewolf can attain. An electrifying feeling waltzes through me and I shiver visibly before crawling out of bed. "Yelp! Yelp!" I jump repeatedly in the center of the room, unable to contain my excitement. I gaze into the mirror, taking deep breaths, and then I break into a big smile. "You did it. I'm so proud of you. I love myself. Okay, okay, it's almost time, enough fooling around, more preparation.” “Finally, self control,” my wolf, Kema says. “Hey, don't act like you're not thrilled,” I retort, clutching my chest. “Yay, I'm so excited,” Kema says dryly. "Sometimes, I don't understand you." “What did I do now?," Kema replies, with a hint of amusement in her voice. “Every other wolf will be grateful to become Luna.” “I'm only asking you to control yourself.” I roll my eyes but can't help the smile tugging at my lips. "Okay, okay, I'll be cool." As I turn to leave, Kema's voice softens. "Seriously though, you did great. I'm proud of you too." I pause, feeling warm at her words . "Thanks, Kema. That means a lot." Kema's presence seems to shimmer with approval. "Now, let's go show the world what we're made of." Not more than thirty minutes later, I'm descending the spiraling staircase into the vast living room. All eyes drift towards me and Stacy, my best friend, rushes to give me a hug. "Mhm, hmm, hmm, you look absolutely stunning!" Stacy says, stepping back dramatically to take in my full appearance. "Yes, purr!” “You are a spec.” I twirl in different ways so she can see everything about me. “I'm not just any spec, I'm the spec.” “Oh, please, come off your high horse!” Stacy reprimands jokingly and we laugh. “I will be right back. I need to find Ansel.” I nod, following Stacy with my eyes until she disappears from my line of sight. Everyone is staring at me, their gaze fixed on me. It's supposed to be exciting, but it's not. As I look closely, I observe that the looks are scornful, not admiring. I tuck strands of my hair behind my ear before tuning my super hearing to their murmured conversation. Peter sneers, "Announcing a bastard as his mate? It's an insult to the entire pack. What's next, inviting stray mutts to join the pack?" Paul nods in agreement, his expression mirroring his brother's disdain. "Exactly. If Dimitri mates her, he will lose his respect for good." Meanwhile, across the room, Martha leans in to whisper to her friend. Her voice dripping with disdain, she says, “Look at her feeling hyped. She thinks she's worthy of being Dimitri's mate. What a joke. She's nothing but a stain on our reputation." Her friend nods, her eyes narrowing as she glances at me. "She's delusional if she thinks she can just waltz in here and claim such a prestigious title. She's not fit to be an alpha's mate." “Not today, not today,” I mutter to myself, pursing my lips and shaking my head. Confrontation is my second nature. I barely have any form of restraint when it comes to dealing with people. I hate diplomacy and love confrontation. Though, I said “Not today” I was already standing in front of Martha. “Hey b***h, you got a problem with me?” I ask. “What'd you call me?” Martha steps closely towards me. As I am about to deliver my reply, Stacy, inserts herself in our middle. “Enough. Look, Alpha Dimitri is here.” I take a deep breath and nod. “I promise you when I become Luna-” Stacy clamps my mouth with a palm. “You talk too much. Dimitri awaits.” I walk over to Dimitri, who stands with one hand tucked into his pocket. His eyes narrow as I approach. I want to hug him, but he pushes my hand away. “Listen, Bianca, I don't want to have anything to do with someone like you, and you are not my mate,” Dimitri says with so much venom and hate. I can’t believe it, I felt like my entire life was crashing down all at once. “What are you saying?” I laugh hysterically. “Did a rock fall over your head or have you lost a screw? It's our mating ceremony. Stop this joke.” “It's not a joke,” he retorts. “I can't be mated to a bastard.” “What?” I grimace. “Nice one, Dimitri,” someone yells from the crowd, clapping. “That's what I'm talking about,” another says, hooting. “Dimitri, don't do this, no not this, not after everything,” I pleaded with him, fighting back tears. “Bianca, listen to me, this is how it has to be,” Dimitri says coldly. “You can't do this to me.” I pound his chest with my fist. “You can't f*****g reject me.” Then he does the most despicable thing, he laughs at me, he laughs and everyone joins him. “You are a lowly servant's daughter, an illegitimate child too, so if you believed I would accept you as my mate, then you need to come out of your delusions.” At this point, my tears start to flow freely. “So, all along you were using me?” He shrugs. “Of course, that's how you will see it.” I scoff unbelievably. “Wha- wha- what do y-ou mean?” “Bianca, I denounce you as mate.” Dimitri walks past me without a care in the world. Everyone starts clapping and hailing him as if he has done something heroic. The sound of their applause is deafening, and each one feels like nail driving into my heart. I stand there, paralyzed by a wave of humiliation and heartbreak, unable to move or speak.
