A few days after our tense discussion about Hazel, the time came for Calix and Kane to leave in search of her. The decision weighed heavily on all of us, but it seemed unavoidable.
Kane, true to his nature, was pacing impatiently as he prepared to leave. His frustration simmered just beneath the surface, his jaw tight with barely contained anger.
“If I face any reluctance, I won’t take it lightly," Kane growled. "I’ll dispatch anything or anyone in my way.”
