Chapter 71. Feelings We Don't Name

1711 Words
The subterranean air of the Seattle loft was thick, charged with the lingering resonance of the piano strings and the raw, jagged vulnerability of the song they had just birthed. They had crossed this line before- many times, in the sterile luxury of the Fortress. s*x had been their pressure valve, a mechanical necessity to ground two people spinning at the center of a hurricane. But as Caspian’s mouth claimed hers this time, the familiar friction felt dangerously different. The "King of Rock" wasn't just looking for a release, and the "Red Queen" wasn't just looking to forget. The music had stripped the skin off their souls, leaving the nerves exposed. Caspian didn't just kiss her; he consumed her. His hands, usually so controlled and precise, were borderline frantic as they tangled in her forest-fire red hair, pulling her head back to expose the elegant line of her throat. Rayna let out a low, needy sound, her fingers digging into the hard muscle of his shoulders. Usually, she knew exactly where his hands would go. Usually, she knew the rhythm of his breathing. But today, his touch felt like an interrogation- searching for something deeper than a heartbeat. "You’re vibrating, Rayna," he rasped against her lips, his voice a jagged ruin. Her nose ring caught the amber light, a sharp glint in the shadows. "This isn't just the adrenaline. Tell me what this is." "I can't," she breathed, her voice cracking. "Just don't stop. Please, Elijah. Don't let me think." He didn't need another invitation. Caspian scooped her up, his grip possessive and unyielding, and carried her the few steps to the massive, low-slung bed. As they hit the mattress, the transition was a blur of heat and friction. The oversized sweaters hit the floor, leaving them both exposed in the amber glow of the Edison bulbs and the haunting blue light of the aquarium wall. Rayna’s breath caught as she looked at him. They had seen each other's bodies a hundred times, but in the silence of Seattle, the ink on his skin seemed to tell a different story. The geometric patterns and haunting imagery on his chest felt like a fortress he was finally letting her scale. His ear gauges glinted, adding to the predatory, unrefined edge he usually kept polished for the cameras. "You have no idea," Caspian growled, his eyes dark with a hunger that bordered on lethal. He crawled over her, his body a heavy, welcome weight. "I’ve had you many times before, but right now? Right now I feel like I’ve never touched you at all." He leaned down, nipping at the sensitive skin just below her ear, right where her own piercings caught the shadows. "You’re mine in this room, Rayna. Not the fans', not the label's. Just mine. Do you feel that?" "I feel everything," she whispered, her head tossing back. The intimacy was visceral. Before, it had been about the heat; now, it was about the marrow. Caspian’s hands were everywhere- mapping the curves of her waist, the arch of her back, but his palms lingered longer, his touch more reverent than it had ever been. He treated her like she was something fragile and priceless, yet his movements were driven by a raw, masculine desperation that told her he was reaching his breaking point. "Look at me," he commanded, his voice a low, filthy promise. Rayna opened her eyes, her vision swimming. Caspian was looking down at her, his emerald eyes scorched with an intensity that made her chest ache. He wasn't just taking her; he was claiming the parts of her that didn't belong to the Red Queen. When he finally slid into her, the familiar sensation was eclipsed by a sudden, terrifying rush of emotion. It wasn't just the physical fit; it was the way his eyes didn't leave hers, the way his jaw tightened as if he were trying to hold back a confession. "So tight, Rayna... f**k," he groaned, his forehead resting against hers as he began to move. The pace was slow, agonizingly deep, each thrust a physical manifestation of the lyrics they had just written. In their past encounters, they might have rushed to the finish, chasing the high. Here, he was dragging it out, forcing her to feel every slide of skin, every heartbeat, every unspoken feeling surfacing under the surface. Caspian’s possessiveness was palpable, more intense than she had ever felt it. He held her wrists above her head, his fingers locking around them like cuffs.. He was a man who had spent a decade controlling every aspect of his empire, but here, in the dark, he was losing his grip. He was vulnerable, and it made him lethal. "You're the only thing that's real," he rasped, his breath hot against her neck. "Not the awards, not the records. You. Every time I touch you, I feel like I'm coming home. Why is it different today? Why does it feel like I'm losing you even when I'm inside you?" "Because we're honest today," Rayna choked out, her heels digging into the mattress. "Because the song... the song didn't leave us anywhere to hide, Elijah." "Then don't hide," he whispered, his voice thick with a raw, unshielded emotion. "Show me the marrow, Rocker. Show me all of it." The dirty words he whispered in her ear weren't just for shock anymore; they were a claim. They were a shield against the world outside. He called her his, over and over, his voice a low growl that vibrated in her bones. He was acting as if the "Great Retrieval" was right outside the door and he had to mark her as his before the world took her back. As the first wave of her climax hit, Rayna’s world shattered. She cried out, her body trembling with a force. Caspian held her through it, his grip bruisingly tight, his own face contorted in a mask of beautiful, agonized pleasure. But as the echoes of the peak began to settle, Rayna felt a sudden, fierce surge of her own. The "protected" role was no longer enough. She needed to feel his weight, his surrender. With a strength born of the raw fire still burning in her veins, she gripped his tattooed shoulders and flipped them. Caspian let out a surprised grunt as he hit the pillows, his dark hair fanning out, his eyes wide as Rayna settled herself over him. She looked down at him, her red hair wild and tangled, her nose piercings glinting, her skin flushed and glowing. "My turn," she whispered, her voice dark and steady. Caspian’s hands immediately flew to her hips, his fingers digging into her skin. "Rayna... you're going to kill me." "Then we die together," she countered, leaning down to capture his lower lip between her teeth. She began to move, taking control of the rhythm, her eyes never leaving his. She watched the way his jaw tightened, the way his hands gripped her hips until his knuckles went white, the way he looked at her with a mixture of awe and absolute, terrifying devotion. It was the look of a man who had finally realized he wasn't just her protector- he was hers, entirely. The loft was silent save for the sounds of their union- the sharp intake of breath, the rhythmic thud of the headboard against the brick, the low, filthy words Caspian whispered as he watched her take exactly what she wanted. It was a beautiful, chaotic dance of two damaged souls finding a momentary peace. Rayna felt the second wave building, a tidal wave of sensation that threatened to drown her. She leaned forward, her chest brushing against his, her hands tangling in his hair. She could feel him beneath her, hard and unyielding, his heart hammering a frantic rhythm against her own. "Elijah, look at me," she demanded. He opened his eyes, and for a split second, the "King" and the "Red Queen" were truly dead. There was no fame. No targets. Just two people, covered in ink and sweat, clinging to each other because they were too afraid to say the words out loud. "I see you," he whispered, his voice breaking. "I see all of you, Rayna." When they finally broke together, it was a cataclysm. Rayna collapsed against his chest, her heart hammering against his, her breath coming in jagged, sobbing gasps. Caspian wrapped his arms around her, pulling her so tight it felt like he was trying to merge their bodies into one. They lay there for a long time, the only sound the rhythmic bubbling of the fish tank and the rain continuing its relentless assault on the city above. The amber light was dimming, the Edison bulbs flickering slightly as the power grid of the old warehouse hummed in the dark. Caspian’s hand moved in a slow, soothing circle on her back, his fingers tracing the curve of her spine. He didn't say anything. He didn't have to. The way he held her, the way he tucked her head under his chin as if she were the most precious thing he had ever possessed, said it all. The s*x had always been good, but this... this had been a haunting. "The song," Rayna whispered into his skin, her voice barely audible. "What about it?" "We can never release it," she said, a ghost of a smile touching her lips. "Because the world isn't ready for the truth. And neither am I." Caspian kissed the top of her head, a soft, lingering touch that felt more intimate than everything that had come before. "Me too, Rocker. Me too." He shifted, pulling the silk sheet over them both, sealing them into their own private world. Upstairs, the "Great Retrieval" was still searching. The "Riots" were still screaming. But down here, in the grey Seattle mist, the marrow was safe. For one night, the truth- and the feelings they weren't yet brave enough to name, was enough.
