Chapter- 16 Default Setting

Arriving at the mall, Izzy eyes where gleaming. " So how long has it been since you've been shopping" i asked she shook her head. " I i honestly cant remember. " seeing her mood change to gloomy i decided the subject was best left alone. 

 " lets go in sephora first!" i pulled her along toward the black and white striped columns to load up on our makeup supply, i needed mascara an the bare minerals base anyway. walking into the store a clerk in black low cut shirt and tight black pants with a red apron greeted us. she was a little older but had a pretty face, heart shaped with honey colored hair that was in a long bob style with highlighted brown eyes. 

she reminded me of Mara but i dismissed the idea " Yes can we get makeovers please?" " Of course" she called another associate over with darker shades of black and brown hair smaller waisted and rounded face paired with light blue eyes. " what kind of look are we going for ladies?" i smiled at Izzy, she had a gleam in her eyes almost like a kid in a candy shop, " lets do a natural look but accentuate our eyes since thats our favorite parts" nodding the ladies began to paint us like artists, taking a few seconds in between to admire there work then continue in there masterpiece.

Once they finished they turned us to the mirrors, "Wow" izzy exclaimed while admiring herself      "perfect" i exclaimed. thanking the ladies i gave them a generous tip and had them box up the items used on us. Izzy was still sitting in her chair staring at herself when i came back over with the bags.

 " Izzy you look beautiful" she blushed " thank you Sarah, its been so long since ive been able to see my reflection, i almost didnt realize it was me" i nodded but felt a pinch at my heart at her words. this poor girl, what kind of life has she lived and how long has it been. i brushed the thoughts away dragging her to another store, four hours later and a ton of shopping bags "lets get lunch im starved, whats your favorite food?" she shrugged at me but seemed to be thinking. 

" well i haven't had sushi in a really long time" she gave a reluctant smile as if she thought i would say no " yay, i love sushi" i jumped and squealed making her do the same. we followed the signs to the River Bay Sushi House on the fourth floor, the hostess immediately greeted us and we had a table with a view of the surrounding buildings. it wasn't my kind of view but Izzy seemed to enjoy it, looking over the menu " get anything you like my dark haired delight" Izzy slapped the table in her fit of laughter startling the couple a few feet away causing them to stare.  

I laughed with her and glared the couple, " You didnt mean to rhyme that did you?" she asked though her laughter. " actually no, but i am pretty slick huh?" we laughed again shaking our heads. We placed our orders for the Tiger rolls with shrimp, crab meat and avocado and carried on a pleasant conversation about our favorite things while we waited. i found out we are basically opposites. While im a pink and teal girl she a maroon and gray, i love outdoors and woods she likes buildings and the city. After our food arrived we settled into a peaceful silence enjoying our meal.

Another 2 hours later and we where shopped out, we both called it quits after the second time i had to tell a guy off for staring at our ass as we walked by and the inappropriate comments that they mentioned to each other where taking a tole on my self control. Izzy couldn't hear the way they were insinuating that we would be a great lay or how hot it would be to have she and i together in a gang bag.

 That was the last straw and i threatened to use the guys skin for a rug and his bones for a snack for my wolves, Izzy became insistent we leave before i actually did. the ride home was quiet except for the radio playing, when Senorita by Shawn and Camilla came on i turned it up to sing along. gosh i love that song, it makes me want a foreign guy to fawn over me, and whisk me away to uncharted territory. i apparently voiced my opinion out loud because Izzy kept laughing and picking at me about my obsessions. turning the music down " Sarah do you have a boyfriend?" i shook my head no at her question. 

"wolves dont really have boyfriends, we have mates, as in a soul mate that was made for you by the mood goddess to be your other half. but i do have some interests." She nodded " thats so romantic, i wished i had a soulmate, being human sucks. you spend your whole life hoping to find the right guy and sometimes the one you think is yours is actually a vile, arrogant, selfish jerk who sells you to vampires". 

i gasp at her admission as she continued to stare out the window scrunching her nose as if a bad smell came over her. " Izzy that's horrible," she nodded " i thought Johnathan was the one, he was sweet at first, very affectionate and kind. After a few months though he started to change, he kept telling me what to do,how to act, what to wear. its my fault i guess. My grandmother always did tell me ' why buy the cow if her milk is free'," she snorted and shook her head.

 I laughed out loud and clamped my hand over my mouth realizing she was probably in pain and didn't need my snarkyness to add to it. "im sorry i didn't mean to laugh" i apologized  " no its okay, i used to laugh too, i thought she was just a crazy old fashioned woman." " well i see it as old fashioned to, but the wolves in my family are all required by law to remain pure." i commented back trying to ease her thoughts.

 " wait y'all have a law against having s*x before your married?" she asked shocked. " Yes well only for princesses basically, the one sided asses think the princes should have free range apparently" Sadie growls out in my mind, i suppress it from escaping to keep Izzy from getting scared. she hummed and stared out the window again" yeah that sounds like human ways too, if a guys gets a lot of booty then hes the Man, if a girl does the same shes a tramp". I nodded " its crazy isint it that the world works so similar", the rest of the drive we where lost in our own thoughts. 

Getting home a few omegas came to help us put the bags into our rooms, my father had done what i had asked and set up the spare room across the hallway from me. opening the doors to the room Izzy was frozen at the door. Ill admit the room needed some TLC with its cream colored walls, white crown moldings and dark brown hardwood. The white drapes with white bedding and furniture were not the fanciest but it gave the room a modern touch. 

"This is mine?, for real?" Izzy asked breathless, i nodded and began unpacking the bags into the drawers and the closet, " Thank you again Sarah, i haven't had a feeling of safety and love since i was with my grandmother. I miss her so much. could i call her one day just to check on her, if its not to much trouble? i haven't seen her since i was 15, after Johnathan sold me i wasn't allowed any outside contact. feeling my heart ache again i struggled to hold out a whimper from Sadie. " actually ill go get my dad, he was supposed to be looking into it while we where gone. If you like i can see what hes found out and ill meet you downstairs for dinner in an hour and half?" 

"okay that will be fantastic!" she jumped into my arms hugging me tightly. i giggled and hugged her back, letting go i left her to enjoy her new space.

Making my way down the hall i mindlinked my dad but he didn't reply, i did the same to mom and nothing. So tried again with Max, then Bruce then Millie. Millie answered " Hey shuga why wasn't you in school?" 

" i took Izmerelda shopping today, she needed clothes, im looking for my parents have you heard where they may be?" i asked back quickly " i cant get Max or Bruce either". i continued " well max was here most of the day but left after lunch saying he had a meeting with your dad and Bruce so im assuming they are there" she replied back almost snappy.

 " thanks, hey can you come to my room after dinner i want to catch up and for you to meet Izzy" 

" sure" her reply was short and i felt her cut our mid link. Jeez i thought to myself what stick is up her butt. Turning down the long hallway toward his office i stopped when i smelled all the mingling scents. my parents, max, bruce and a few others i didn't recognize. i knocked twice waiting only to hear nothing, hmm i wonder if dad has his shield up.  i knocked again and tried the mindlink, getting nothing i decided to barge right on in, i mean im a royal to this could be important.

 i was getting pissy since i wasn't invited, before i could turn the nob it was forced open and i met a familiar pair of ice blue eyes. his minty scent wrapped around me like smoke and i smiled brightly. we stared at one another for a few seconds until a throat was cleared and my fathers voice filtered though " Sarah get in here and close the door behind you".

 i noticed Bruce stepped to the side to give me space to enter, making sure to brush against my arm as i walked by him. Looking around the room i noticed not only Bruce, Max and my mom  but two very handsome wolves i had recognized to be the Deveroux brothers, along with beta Evans and a few others from the shadow wolves pack.

Shifting to sit down on the couch next to my mom i crossed my legs continuing to observe the others. " as i was saying" beta Evans began looking towards me briefly " i believe the ceremony should be postponed since the contestants have not all met our prize yet." what are they talking about, i sighed inwardly, i felt so lost, why wasn't i told about this meeting so i would have shown up on time. 

 " yes i agree, however i suggest we do make a schedule to start the visitation of the four realms as well as a presentation at each. this is a very rare occasion and many are getting overly excited and anxious" the man from the last meeting i recognized before spoke up. 

 "is everyone finished instructing me on how to run my realm and this ceremony?" My father all but growled causing most of them to cringe backward. "Alpha King Samuel, if i may i would like to extend a request that the first presentation be honored by ourselves the Southern Shadow Pack, since we are the closest it only makes since to travel to us first."

 i stared at the Deveroux brothers wondering what on earth they are talking about. I couldn't take being in the dark anymore and decided to speak up " Father what ceremony are you speaking of and why wasn't i informed of the meeting."

 All heads turned my way, multiple growls sounded, since a female spoke up i assume that is why there are giving me the death glares. rolling my eyes i waited for my father to answer me. " gentlemen we will resume this meeting in the morning, it is almost dinner time and you all are welcome to join us." with his closing statement the men began to leave the room the Deveroux brothers shot winks my way, i returned there gesture.

 'THEY ARE DEFINITELY NICE PIECES TO PLAY WITH' Snorting at her friskiness i tried to conceal it with a cough. the men continued out the room, Bruce giving me a small smile and Max kissed his two fingers and blew them my way, i just waved in reply as my father glared at them slamming the door. 

"Sarah when will you learn" my father scolded while bracing his knuckles against the mahogany desk. He looked up at me shaking his head " always my little troublemaker aren't you" he shook his head with a small smile. feeling his mood lighten i crossed the distance between us in a small hug. my dad returned it quickly and kissed my forehead " take a seat, this may be a long talk"

I sat in the chair closets to his desk while my mother remained in her seat on the couch looking at me. she didnt offer any words as my father began " Sarah, learning that Izmerelda wasn't your mate has not changed the plans your mother and i have made."

 Tilting my head to the side i scrunched my brow in confusion " your birthday was planned in advance as a presentation of your coming of age. Since that time we have been casing the eligible lycans for a suitable mate to take over my position as alpha king." my jaw dropped actually i think it fell off and ran into the next room hiding...they are arranging a marriage for me! Sadie was just as dumbstruck as i am... 

   " you did what! Mom is this true? is this why you told me about your mates?! so i could understand that if it wasn't a royal you would execute them like yours where? what kind of heartless creatures are yall? the moon goddess chooses our mates not us!" 

i was beyond furious, i cant believe my parents would do this to me. not only do i not get to choose my mate now i have to marry a complete stranger! Great just great i thought to myself feeling defeated i slumped down in my chair with my hands covering my face. Whats next they will set a price on me? 

My parents obviously couldn't see i was on default setting mode and not totally coherent has they continued there speech " Sarah, at your ball we had so many proposition for your hand that your father and i couldn't possibly make a decision so we decided that we will have a ceremony at the end of next year to have the Alpha Games in respect of the winner having the claim over you."
