Chapter 1

Sophia Pov “Ah… f**k me harder—” The desperate, guttural moan sliced through the quiet apartment like a blade. It was raw, unfiltered, and unmistakably Ethan’s voice—thick with pleasure in a way I had never heard before. My heart slammed against my ribs as I stood frozen in the entryway, the bottle of chilled Pinot Noir slipping from my suddenly numb fingers. It shattered on the hardwood floor, red wine spreading like spilled blood across the tiles I had helped pick out. I should have turned and run. Instead, my feet carried me forward, silent and unwilling, down the hallway toward our bedroom. The door was ajar, golden lamplight spilling out into the dim corridor. The sounds grew louder: rhythmic slapping of skin against skin, the creak of the bedframe, low masculine groans, and Ethan’s broken whimpers of ecstasy. I pushed the door open. The scene burned itself into my memory forever. Ethan lay on his back in the bed we had shared for three years, legs spread wide, his body glistening with sweat. Marcus—his colleague from the office, a tall, lean man I had met at company parties—thrust into him with deep, powerful strokes. Ethan’s hands gripped Marcus’s hips, pulling him deeper, his head thrown back against the pillows as he moaned loudly. “Yes… just like that,” Ethan gasped, his voice hoarse and needy. “f**k, Marcus, harder… please.” Marcus obliged, driving into him with controlled force, the wet, obscene sounds of their joining filling the room. Ethan’s own c**k lay hard and leaking against his stomach, untouched, twitching with every thrust. His face was flushed with raw pleasure, mouth open, eyes half-closed in bliss. The air was thick with the scent of sweat, musk, and s*x. I stood there, unable to look away, my body a battlefield of emotions. Betrayal cut deep, but beneath it simmered something darker—a shameful, unwelcome heat low in my belly as I watched the man I loved being claimed so thoroughly, so passionately. This was nothing like the polite, careful lovemaking Ethan and I had shared. This was hunger. This was surrender. Time stretched. Seconds felt like minutes. Finally, Marcus noticed me first. He stilled deep inside Ethan, murmuring something low against his neck. Ethan’s eyes fluttered open, hazy with lust, and slowly focused on me standing in the doorway. For a long, agonizing moment, no one spoke. The only sounds were their heavy breathing and the distant hum of the city outside. Ethan didn’t panic. He didn’t shout or scramble desperately. Instead, he let out a slow, steady breath and gently tapped Marcus’s side. Marcus pulled out carefully, both men shifting to sit up on the bed. Ethan reached for the sheet but draped it loosely over his lap, making no frantic attempt to hide his still-aroused state. “Sophia,” he said quietly, his voice calm and almost gentle. “I didn’t want you to find out like this.” Marcus sat beside him, unashamed, one hand resting casually on Ethan’s thigh. The casual intimacy of the gesture twisted the knife deeper. I swallowed hard, my throat tight. “How long?” Ethan met my eyes steadily. “A while. Marcus and I… this has been happening for some time. I’m gay, Sophia. I’ve known about it for years. I tried to fight it. I defended our relationship every single day. I defended him because being with him feels natural. Right. I’m not going to pretend this is dirty or shameful. I love you in my own way. I wanted our life together to work. I hoped marriage would fix what I was missing.” Marcus nodded quietly, his expression neutral but supportive. “He’s been torn up about this. But hiding it was destroying him.” The words landed like stones in still water. I stared at them—naked, glistening with sweat, Ethan’s body still marked by Marcus’s possession—and felt the foundation of my life crack wide open. The erotic tableau before me only amplified the pain: the way Ethan’s skin was flushed, the faint red marks on his hips from Marcus’s grip, the undeniable evidence of how much he had wanted this. Tears burned at the corners of my eyes, but I forced them back. My voice trembled as I spoke. “You defended him. While I was planning our wedding. While I was saving myself for nights like this with you. You came home to me every night and then…” Ethan reached out a hand, but I stepped back. “Sophia, please. This doesn’t have to end everything. We can figure it out. Open the relationship. Therapy. I never wanted to hurt you.” I laughed, the sound brittle and broken. “You were moaning for him to f**k you harder in our bed. And now you’re defending it like it’s normal.” “It is normal for me,” Ethan replied softly, his hand still resting on Marcus’s thigh. The gesture was so casual, so accepted, that it hurt more than any shouting could have. The confrontation stretched on. Ethan continued speaking in that calm, reasonable tone—defending Marcus, defending his needs, explaining how he had tried for us. Marcus occasionally added quiet support. I stood there, listening, the shattered wine bottle and the rumpled sheets bearing witness to the death of the future I had imagined. Finally, when the pain became too much, I asked the question that had been burning in my chest. “Do you love me?” The silence that followed was heavier than anything else that night. Ethan hesitated, his eyes flicking briefly to Marcus before returning to me. The pause said everything his words never could.
