Sterling’s POV
I can’t believe I was forced to do this. A real man gets the job done by himself with no help needed whatsoever. I look at the corner of my desk and wince at the doctor’s report. My mother got so worried about my blood pressure results that she emotionally blackmailed me to get a personal assistant. The last time I had any sort of clerical help, the man passed out from exhaustion after a
week. I don’t need anyone slowing down my progress but unfortunately…It can’t be helped.
“Sir it’s time to interview the shortlist of applicants.” The head of Human resources tells me. I slip on my jet black suit and look at my watch. 9:00 am. What a perfect use of the morning.
The first applicant was an average man with clothes too tight to fit, He huffed and puffed about his achievements but nothing truly worthwhile. To end the noise, I wrote down his score and told him to invite the next person. The next applicant must have lost her way because she dressed up in such a scandalous outfit. At least try to secure the job before seducing me. Another instant reject.
One after the other, some promising, others not quite. I got to the last name. Eva Knox.
“Sir, there’s no one else here.” The second to the last person said. I tapped the table with my pen. Perfect. I can wrap this up, send the details to the head of-
“Wait!” I heard a female voice shout. I looked over the door post to see who it was. A woman was talking to the receptionist. She must be the last applicant. I sat back on my chair and crossed my legs. She had better be worth my time. From the moment she walked out that door, my heart skipped a beat. I’ve never seen such a breathtaking woman. Her strawberry blonde hair was packed in a high ponytail. Her skin glistened under the light and her eyes, her hazel eyes put the most fine cut emerald to shame. As she walked to her seat. It was hard to miss her toned figure in that navy blue gown. Her face was flushed probably from embarrassment at the door.
“Good morning Mr Tempest, My n-name is Eva Knox.” she said
“Good morning Miss Knox, let’s begin” As the interview progressed, I could feel her confidence rising. She had the right qualifications, a good reference and has worked with a 1% company in her previous job.
As I scribbled down my remarks, she observed the decor of the office and smiled in somewhat admiration.
“The woodwork is quite the statement, Very Tony Crammel” Eva said. That comment took me aback. She must have great taste as well, She might just be the one.
“That rounds up the interview. My recruitment team will reach out to you if you’re selected for the role.” I said She nodded her head and smiled. “Thank you for your time.”
******************************************
As the CEO of Neo Tempest, my job is always on the hour. The empire was on its last legs when my father passed away, so I took on the mantle to raise it from the ground up. To keep up with operations, I built a state of the art workstation in the Tempest mansion in Avalon city. I had to move there permanently after the incident with my precious little sister, Amelia. Those thugs from Black Venom have been dealt with but to think a lowlife family could harm one of my own? Not on my watch. On the matter of work, these press conference invites are piling up, one after another…
I can hear soft footsteps approaching. My mom walks over to my side in a red velvet robe.
“Sterling my dear, how did the interview go?” My mother said,
“Satisfactory, I have few people in mind.” I replied.
“So I went through the files,” My mother continued. I sighed and rubbed the bridge of my nose. She can be so nosy. “There was a person that piqued my interest. Someone from the house of Knox.”
My ears twitched. “Surely that's not possible. That clan has been extinct for decades. Might just be a similarity in name” I said.
“I thought as much, but other than that, she seems to have quite the resume, I think she should be a good candidate.” Interesting… My mother is never one to vouch for anyone up front so I’ll take her word for it.
“There is another matter Sterling,” I recognize that tone, Oh dear.
“Have you thought about your future co-parent? I know you’re busy with the empire but clocking is ticking…”
“Mother we’ve talked about this, Amelia can continue the bloodline when she is of age. I have no desire to have children. I can’t risk it like my Father did. The women of the night are enough for me.”
I hate to see my mother downcast but I couldn’t do this. The loss of my father haunts me to this day. I have to die without an heir to end this curse on my family once and for all.

I had the recruitment team reach out to Miss Knox to award her the position. The next day, she arrived at the office for the onboarding process.
“There are a set of separate rules that also follow the company policy in regards to this position”. She sat upright, earnest to listen.
“You are to move into the mansion in Avalon for accommodation. As my assistant, I would need you at later hours of the day and you will be duly compensated. You will stay in a different wing for optimum privacy,” I said firmly.
“You will have a personal chauffeur, live-in maid and stylist in the wing. All outsourced jobs will be fulfilled by the house staff.”
“And lastly, we are to remain cordial. We can never have a romantic and/or s****l relationship in any way. Any breach of it will lead to your contract termination.”
