I cannot but reflect on that night of 24 April last year as we approached Gallipoli. Then I had no idea of what lay ahead. This afternoon I have a clear vision of the German force, their defences and their resolve. As chilling an adventure as Gallipoli was, I fear this assault will by comparison be a truly harrowing event. I set Alf to gather the Platoon Sgts to ready the men. Each man will carry an additional burden of either a tin of water or a box of 12 Mills Bombs, as well as their fighting kit. As we did at Lone Pine, the men are to be easily identifiable so to avoid shooting our own in the melee.
