Episode 8-Helping Hero

1923 Words
I couldn’t believe what happened after Hero put my finger into his mouth, the feeling of wanting to be touched started to well up in me but I wasn’t gonna give in, it’s strange how this body was reacting so much to Hero’s single touch, I mean is that even logical at all? I was lost in my own little world when Hero brought down my finger and showed it to me, showing me another miracle.   “Wow, it healed up already” I smiled and he shyly returned the smile before going back to his floating chair and table where he had been working.   “How does this thing manage to stay on nothing? I mean it knows the perfect height to stay and it has no legs” I asked Hero moving to sit in front of him.   “It’d held up by gravitational force to the ground” Hero explained, eyes focused on whatever it is he was doing in the first place.   “You don’t want me to help?-   “I don’t think you know how to write and read yet, you definitely don’t speak Ghafilan” Hero’s eyes was still fixed on the paper and it was starting to upset me.   “Hero why won’t you let anyone help you? Barb can translate for me if you allow me” I shrugged and he exhaled looking up to meet my eyes.   “A robot, her memory can be compromised or hacked into and confidential files could be leaked that way-   “Hero!” I called out in disbelief, shocked by how far he had gone in mistrusting everyone.   “Does anyone know Barb can translate for me? Does anyone know I’ll be helping you? Does anyone know I don’t understand Ghafilan? I can’t believe you’d go that far in mistrusting Hero” I complained and he exhaled probably exasperated by what I just told him.   “I don’t know Claire-   “You can never know who to trust if you don’t give anyone a chance Hero, I know sometimes that trust fails but you can’t just give up after one failure…you have to give it another shot, then another until you find the right person to trust” I advised earnestly as he fixed his intense gaze on me.   “You can’t handle everything yourself Hero, you need people, trusted advisors and subordinates-   “No…no, you don’t seem to understand Claire, no one can be trusted; you can’t trust anyone” I heaved out a loud sigh.   “That might be true but there are still some people out there who look and see through you. People who know you’re in pain but couldn’t do anything but watch you since you have built a wall so high around yourself. Those people are those you should find-   “What if there is no one like that?” Hero shrugged.   “How would you know if you didn’t look for?” I questioned and he pulled back into the legless chair’s backrest.   “Do you want to go fishing?” My question seems to sound weird to him considering he was quirking his hairless eyebrows at me. I wonder how an alien could be so handsome. Wait, since when did I consider Hero as the handsome type, I must be going crazy.   “What I meant is do you want to go fishing for those types of people?” I questioned and he shook his head not wanting to give in to my request but a persistent look from him had him throwing his hands up in the air in defeat.   “Okay fine, but not any of my brothers-   “That’s the perfect place to start looking” I grinned and he started to shook his head.   “No…not any of them” Hero looked pained, he was hurt and I felt glistening green tears surfaced on his eyes.   “What did they do to you?” I asked softly looking at his pained face.   “Aira could have been alive” I shot my brows up almost immediately, Aira was my backbone, she handled everything for me since she was trained in leadership since she was young, she thought me all about ruling a nation. She was everything to me and my favourite brother Kio and Nio knew that. Most of the time Aira would be here in this study while I work with science since I loved it-   “Yes I remember that, you used to help my mom and dad work in the labs because you were fascinated by science” I smiled recalling vaguely the memory of Hero helping my parent; he loved science.   “She was in control of everything and most of the time she’ll try to make me work with the republic matters but I’ll rather leave her to it and when her sickness started I dedicated my time to finding the cure since at the time she was heavily pregnant and I made a breakthrough. I made the cure but my brothers knowing I would be nothing with Aira gone stole the cure and hid it. I found out a bit too late, it was no use after she took the cure, I found it later and she just…died, immediately after I gave her the cure” Hero was crying as he talked and I felt my heart ache for him.    They’ve killed him; they’ve broken him beyond what I imagined. Hero quickly wiped his eyes and continued what he was doing but I was still curious, for some kind of reason I felt there was more to the story.   “So, where are your brothers now?” I asked and he sighed while I silently prayed he hadn’t killed them.   “I banished them to North fort, I didn’t want to ever see them again since I couldn’t bring myself to kill them” Hero answered eyes still fixed on the strange paper he was writing on. I sat thinking of what and how to do to find the perfect assistant and subordinates for Hero.   “You are brothers Hero, I’m certain some of your brothers still want to sincerely help you” I voiced but Hero didn’t say anything, he just concentrated on his work.   “Hero do you trust me?” I asked and he slowly raised his head, for some kind of reason I fear what he might say.   “I…I do” I don’t know if I should be happy about that or not.   “Then will you let me chose subordinates for you?” I asked and he heaved loud not wanting to give in to my request.   “And whether or not they are your bothers?” I insisted and Hero shook his head. I held his hand and his eyes immediately moved to the sudden contact. I don’t know how it was possible but with the sudden contact I was practically sharing his feelings, he was scared, uncertain, doubtful; it made me want to comfort him.   “You’re confident” it wasn’t a question; he could feel it as well.   “Claire you don’t know how things work here on Zullion, we are not like you…humans” He stated looking into my eyes.   “From what I’ve been seeing we aren’t that different from each other, if you want me to stick around you’d have to trust me on this” I insisted and he nodded giving in at last.   “But how did you intend to choose people you don’t even know about” His question makes total sense, I was going to choose trusted advisors and subordinates for Hero, I need to know about all the people around him.   “Then tell me about them” I beseeched and Hero let out another loud sigh.   “I don’t have that much time Claire, I have-” Hero brought out a long golden scroll and looked into it.   “I have just few minutes until the council meeting regarding to these petitions which I haven’t gone halfway of it because you’re here distracting me” Hero complained but I smiled instead.   “But you’re the king, you made the rules” I shrugged.   “As a king I have a responsibility to my Rhafil which I have to carry out successfully and maintain a good image as King-   “You’re too hard on yourself Hero, even kings and queens need a break once in a while. Have you ever taken a break since Aira died, since you assume your full responsibility as king…have you for once taken a break?” I asked and he wore a pensive look for a second.   “My Rhafil will suffer if I rest-   “You’re not a God Hero, you need a proper rest. How did you intend to survive if you never gave yourself a time to rest? What would happen to your people if you fall gravely ill because you haven’t been having adequate rest?” I asked and I could tell he was thinking about it too.   “You know what, quickly make a list of Ghafil around you, the Ghafil you wish you could trust…the Ghafils in which if you trust would be a great help to you. Barb and I would research on them, and then I’ll make up some tests and make them unconsciously going through it. After that I’ll inform you about those ones you should trust. Hero, you have got to trust me on this one” I beseeched and he nodded bringing out another scroll to write down the names of few people he wish he could trust, after few minutes he handed the list to me and I nodded taking it with me as I headed towards the door.   “Maybe I’m here for a reason Hero, every single thing in this world happens for a reason, we might not know it but the result is always better” I smiled as I slowly turned back to Hero before existing his study. I was on my way down going through the names which I found difficult to pronounce even though Hero had managed to write it in English and not their silly illustration writing.   “Check if Nio and Kio are in the list” I asked Barb who had been silently following me since I left Hero’s study.   “It isn’t” Barb replied after going through the list for a minute.   “Do you mind adding the two names” I asked Barb who hesitated on my request but then project a beam of light into the paper and managed to replicate Hero’s handwriting by putting down the names I asked for her to add. ----------
