12.In his tiny office at fire department headquarters at 698 Second Street, Jamie was writing up his recent interviews for the file. Even though they hadn’t learned anything from the various interviewees, it was standard procedure to write up at least a paragraph for each conducted interview. Now that the China Basin area was almost completely leveled because of Pac Bell Park construction, there weren’t too many eyewitnesses around early in the morning in the old industrial area—most everything left was now vacant, awaiting razing before gentrification. And in fact, there were probably even fewer people around late at night, when the fire actually got started. So Jamie was feeling kind of down and a little discouraged by the lack of any solid witness information. No one had seen anything.
