It was already three in the morning when I returned to my chalet. Dressed in my nightgown and ready to sleep, I decided to go to the kitchen and drink a glass of water before curling up in bed.
The only light in the house came from the refrigerator open in front of me. Aside from that, everything was covered in complete darkness, because I made sure to close every window as soon as I entered the house. I couldn’t even make out the furniture around me.
Yet somehow, I felt him before I saw him behind me.
My body recognized his even in the complete darkness.
"You’re here to see how I liked your gift?" I asked with my mouth around the rim of the glass, without turning around, pretending normality. "And what a beautiful gift it was."
