August 12th, 2017 9:23am "No way!" Laura gasped in my ear. "Nevaeh! Are you serious!" She let out an ear piercing scream. I pulled the phone away from my ear. "Yeah, strangely, I'm serious." I laughed. After the morning I had, a long talk with a sober Laura was what I needed. Unfortunately, my torturous day wasn't done. My heart was heavy so I couldn't celebrate excitedly with Laura. I had to hold a little girl's hand as we put her old, sick dog to sleep. This was the worst part about being a Veterinarian's assistance. It always made me cry. "Oh my gosh! I can't believe he asked you to marry him! When's the wedding?! Have you picked your colors? Hold on!...I'm going to be your maid of honor, right?" "Laura! Slow down! We just asked me last night! It's not a lot of time to plan an entire wedding! Anyways...I don't want a big wedding. A few close friends and Gregory is all I need." I smiled to myself, thinking about standing at the alter next to Greg. "I'm so happy for you, girl! We have to go out an celebrate!" "Oh, no! No more clubs. I'm officially off the market and I don't want to break any poor guys heart like last night." "Damn, Nevaeh!" She laughed in the phone. "He was smoking hot, though! You can't lie." Remembering the stranger I met at the club last night, I smiled to myself again. "Yeah...But he was a bit older than me. Maybe if I hadn't ran into Greg-" "Well..." His voice made me jump, causing my phone to slip out of my hands. I gave a little surprised squeak as I turned to face Greg standing on the other side of the counter. "That's not exactly the best conversation to walk in on." He smiled sweetly at me. "S-sorry! It was nothing! I-I swear!" His laughter eased my embarrassment. I reached down for my phone and groaned at the cracked screen. "I'll buy you another one. Maybe something of this century. Although, after that interesting conversation I just overheard, you may have to earn that phone." He always had a way to make a girl smile. "I'm not letting you buy me a new phone. I have a little bit in the bank. I'll just replace this one." "Too late!" He pulled a pink gift bag from the floor and set it in front of me along with a bouquet of red roses. I stared at him in disbelief. "What did you do?" "I noticed your hideous outdated phone sitting on your bed stand this morning and figured you could use something that actually works." My mouth fell open dramatically. "I liked my hideous outdated phone, thank you very much! Not everyone can afford your luxury, Mr. millionaire!" "Hardly." He smirked. "There's a couple other things in there for tonight. We have a lot to discuss, future Mrs. Peters." He leaned in and kissed me on the cheek before winking and leaving me there to watch him walk out. The grey suit he wore hugged his body so nicely that I couldn't help but imagine what fun he had planned for tonight. After the last scheduled client of the day, Mr. Lewinski let me go early, giving me a full day to myself. I've worked with Mr. Lewinski for four years and we were close. He was almost like a father to me, so when I announced my engagement to him he was very reluctant, but congratulated me none the less by letting me go for the day. I had embarrassed myself after Gregory left when I pulled out a sexy black lace undies and matching bra in front of a client sitting in the waiting room with her miniature poodle. Although she gave an approving nod, I hid the bag under my desk until I left, my face redder than a tomato. I quickly dialed Greg's number on my new iPhone once I was outside. "Yes, my sweet fiancé." I loved how he answered the phone. "Really? You couldn't have waited to give me your private gift until we were alone? I about gave Mrs. Whittler a damn heart attack!" "That old lady that use to babysit you when we were kids? Oh I bet she loved that! She always did like you," Greg joked. "She did give a very disturbing silent approval. Think she wore something like that in her days?" I laughed. "Oh, defiantly! I can picture it now." "Oh really?" I walked down the sidewalk through the busy afternoon crowds. It was typically crowded around this time since everyone was taking lunch. It was difficult getting anywhere. "And I see you left me a large chunk of money?" I pulled the envelope from my bag. "Of course I did." He seemed pleased with himself. "This isn't going to become a problem, is it? You know I can buy my own things." "You're going to be my wife and my wife gets treated like a queen. Whatever you have in your bank account you can save up. If you decided to divorce me in a couple years you can always run away to Boca or somewhere far." I didn't find humor in his words. "I would never...Thank you." I hated him buying me a new phone and giving me so much money but I also didn't like arguing with him. "You're welcome, baby. Go treat yourself. Please. Meet me back at my place at eight." "Okay." "I love you." My heart swelled with so much love for this man. To hear those words coming from him was a dream come true. "I love you too." Once the line clicked I dropped my phone back into my bag and headed straight to my first destination: Jackie's Closet. I walked through the door and was hit like a bus by the smell of Jasmine and sage. My longest best friend owned this store, tucked deep in the busy streets of New York. She was always very spiritual and I loved the feeling this place gave off just by walking by. "Nevaeh? Is that you?" Her beautiful face beamed at me from behind the counter. "Hey! Long time no see!" She greeted me with open arms once she reached me and didn't let me go for the longest time. "No kidding!" She stepped away to examine me. "You're glowing, love!" "Y-yeah! I guess," I laughed. "How have you been?" "Busy, like always." "People were always attracted to you." It was true. Since we were young Jackie was always popular with men and woman. She always had a handsome guy on her arm that swooned over her and a trail of friends. To be so close with someone so beautiful was enchanting to say the least. Her dark skin, hazel eyes and long, brown curls that touched her back side made her look like a Goddess. And that she was! "What have you been up to? Trouble, like always?" She teased as I followed her through the clothes racks. "Not much. I'm engaged." She spun around so fast her hair smacked me in the face. "WHAT! And you didn't think to contact me?!" She practically shouted. A few customers gave us funny glances. "It happened last night," I laughed. "That's why I'm here." "What's his name? Do I know him?" She started with the questions. "It's...Gregory..." "Peters?! That boy you were head over heels in love with back in high school?!" Her eyes grew. I nodded. "How in God's right mind did that happen?" I told her the story about how we ran into each other at the Café, leaving out all the parts of Velvet and the spell. If she would have known I was messing around with black magick she would kill me herself. When I was finished she closed her eyes and shook her head. "Girl, you got yourself into some waist deep muck." "I love him, Jackie! It was magickal! I can't tell you how happy I am!" "Hmmhmmm…You've got some funny vibrations about you. I sensed it once you walked in. What have you been stepping in that you shouldn't be?" She narrowed her eyes. I forgot how sensitive she was when it came to this kind of stuff. I just avoided eye contact and tucked some hair behind my ear. "Nothing...Can you help me find something nice for tonight? We're having our first real date at his place." I batted my eyelashes at her until she sighed in defeat. After we found some really cute clothes and a few pieces of jewelry she insisted on to "protect me from negativity and harm", I shopped for some cute heels and head for some lunch. My stomach rumbled at me and I was only a few blocks from one of my favorite sandwich shops. My phone vibrated in my bad and as I waited in a crowd for a green walk light, I pulled it out.
