Chapter 15
Probably for the first time since sharing a bed with Zane, Rory couldn’t sleep. He sighed. At least he hadn’t slept and had a nightmare. Rory’s big strong teddy bear—who always wrapped himself around Rory protectively—had seemed to banish those for good. Rory knew he was being foolish. Mrs. Fox was a good person; he’d seen that for himself the previous day. And she’d raised a wonderful son. But what if what she’d seen had disgusted her and she asked Zane to stop seeing Rory and find a nice girl instead? What would Zane do? And what would Rory do if Zane agreed with his mother? Rory shuddered at that thought. “Stop it!” he whispered to himself in the dark.
Zane pulled Rory closer to his chest and mumbled something incoherent before resuming his light snores.
