Jake’s p.o.v.
“I’m telling you, it won’t take me longer than a week”, I explained for the millionth time, still feeling confident about it. These girls all try to act different in the beginning but when it comes down to it, I get them all on their knees for me. Exactly where I like them.
“I really don’t think so this time”, Noah responded as I drove us into my street.
“Yeah, there’s just something that seems off about her”, Kevin commented and I couldn’t help but glare at him. I quickly shook it off however as he started laughing, an amused expression on his face “Easy there tiger, I didn’t mean it in a bad way”
“Your charms don’t seem to be working but it appears hers are”, Noah stupidly winked at me, earning a slap on the shoulder before I focused back on the road “Whatever dude”
“Our Jakey in love, never once in my life did I think I would get to experience that”, I turned back to my friend with a raised brow just as Kevin spoke the words I was thinking off “Jake in love? Yeah right”
It was true, she was a pretty girl but feelings? Hell nah
I never cared about s**t like that before and I’m definitely not starting now. They bring nothing but unnecessary drama anyway…
“Guess we’ll just have to wait and se-“
“Well, crap”, I interrupted Noah as my eyes darted to the familiar car on the driveway and my hands tightly gripped the steering wheel. You would say most people would be happy to finally see their parents home. Well, I wasn’t most people.
“Your parents home?” Kevin asked and I answered annoyed as we got out of my car “Yup”
The both followed me to the house like we always do and I rolled my eyes as I heard my mothers loud voice as we entered.
I motioned for them to just go upstairs already, giving my mother a bored look as she scolded one of the maids. She could be way to controlling about the house, even though she was almost never here.
“Ah, there you are”, she finally noticed me as the maid quickly left the room “Why don’t you help me carry these bags and come greet your dad in the kitchen”
You’d think a normal parents would ask something like ‘And son, how was your first day of school?’ but no, I wouldn’t even be surprised if they had forgotten it was the first day of school today.
I just shook my head and picked up the bags like ‘the good son I was’ and followed her as she sat down next to my dad. He didn’t even look up from his phone as I sat down in front of them and I had to stop myself from huffing at him. My dad was a true businessman, took his work literally everywhere.
“Your dad has gotten another deal in China”, my mother started, laying her hands neatly on top of each other on the table. So indirectly she’s saying they’ll be leaving soon again, not that that was something I wasn’t used to. Same old, same old.
“That’s good”, I commented, slightly nodding my head as I prayed this conversation would be soon over. I looked over at my dad and for the first time during this whole time he looked up from his phone, giving me a glance. There were two looks I was used from him. The neutral one, the one he was giving me now, or the disappointed one. I really couldn’t do anything good in the eyes of that man but yet again, I had gotten used to that.
I noticed how he grabbed something from his pocket and it took everything in me not to roll my eyes as he handed me yet another stupid card “I’ve put some more money in”
I muttered a small thanks as I took the card from him before he spoke again “You know it’s not a race to get it empty as quick as you can”
What now? He’s trying to teach me something about money? If there’s one thing he learned me about money, it’s that it’s his only way of fixing things.
Something wrong with the business? Pump some money into it and give the employees a raise so they stop whining.
You accidentally hurt someone? Pay them for the damages and don’t even throw a single look back at what the damages even were.
Have an annoying son at home? Just throw some money his way and have other people take care of the brat.
Whatever…
“I know dad”, I made my voice sound neutral and he just courtly nodded before turning back to his phone. Yeah, good talk dad.
My mother cleared her throat before she started speaking again, her words annoying me even more than I already was “So as I said before, your dad and I will be gone for a month and we thought it was a good idea to ask Lana over” She has to be kidding me?
“Why? You need another person to babysit me?” I spoke frustrated, my voice coming out louder than intended. My dad shortly glared up from his phone “Don’t speak like that to your mother, son”
I didn’t pay attention to him whatsoever as I looked at my mother, my eyebrows pressed in a tight line.
She looked at me with a smile that probably was meant to be reassuring but it didn’t even come close to that “It isn’t like that Jake, we just thought it would be good to spend some time together”
Great, just f*****g great…
I loved Lana, I did but do you even want to know how frustrating it is to always hear them say ‘you should be more like your sister’? She was their little ‘miss perfect’ and I was the big failure of the family.
“Fine”, I mumbled before standing up from my chair just as Sandra entered the kitchen. She was one of the elder maids and practically the one that raised me. I sometimes even like to say she’s the only one that truly knows me.
“Why don’t you go upstairs to your friends, I’ll call you down when dinner’s ready”, she whispered to me and I gave her a nod.
“Thanks Sandra”, I smiled at her, throwing my parents one last glance and rolled my eyes as I found both of them already back glued to their phone.
Yeah, they’d totally win parent of the year…
I left the kitchen and slowly walked up to my room, trying to calm myself down a bit. Lashing out and getting into fights with others wasn’t abnormal for me and it always left me baffled that my parents never understood where that could possibly be coming from.
I sighed loudly and my mood quickly changed as I took my phone from my pocket, a smirk creeping onto my face as I read a new message.
-My parents aren’t home tonight, you wanna come over? ;) – Caitlyn
Well, who am I to say no to such offer?
Quickly typing in a reply, I walked into my bedroom and plopped down on of the sofa’s.
“Show him”, Kevin spoke, sounding a little to exciting to my liking, before I turned to Noah “Show me what?”
“I found your little girlfriend on f*******:”, he answered, wiggling his brows as he held his phone in his hand and I loudly exhaled, leaning my face in my hands “Seriously Noah, how many times to I have to tell you that Janet isn’t my goddamn girlfriend”
Just the thought alone gives me chills…
“He wasn’t speaking about Janet though”, Kevin’s words made my eyes snap up again, rapidly taking the phone from Noah. Catherine Jones
A smirk quickly formed on my face as I scanned the girls page but what I saw kind of left me surprised. She was brightly smiling on every picture whereas I hadn’t seen her smile in real life, not even once. Same with her clothes, not that I cared much about that, but the bright colors definitely were different from the black and grey I had seen her in.
“These are all photos from over a year ago though, it’s kinda weird”, Kevin commented but my eyes stayed glued to one of her pictures where she happily posed with, who I supposed were her parents, and a little girl that looked just like her. Weird indeed…
