The mansion fell into complete darkness. The elegant halls of Kingsley Manor, once filled with warmth and silence, were now swallowed by an eerie stillness. Olivia instinctively took a step backward, Her heart pounded violently against her chest. Another loud crash echoed from downstairs. Bang! The sound of shattering glass made her jump. Adrian's expression hardened. His warm demeanor vanished, replaced by the cold, commanding CEO everyone feared. "Stay behind me." Olivia shook her head, "I can't." His gray eyes met hers. "This isn't a request." "It's dangerous." "I'm still coming." She lifted her chin stubbornly, "If someone gets hurt, I'm the only medical professional here." For a brief second, Adrian stared at her. Then he gave a small nod. "Fine." "But don't leave my side." Outside the library, Alfred hurried toward them. His usually calm face was filled with panic. "Sir!" "The security cameras have gone offline." "What about the guards?" "We've lost communication." Daniel appeared from the opposite hallway, holding a flashlight. "Our emergency system has been hacked." Adrian's jaw tightened, "They planned this." Daniel handed him a small black pistol. Olivia's eyes widened. "You carry a gun?" "I prefer being prepared." He looked at Daniel. "Get Miss Carter to the panic room." Before Daniel could answer, Olivia spoke firmly. "No." Everyone looked at her, "I'm not hiding while other people are in danger." Daniel sighed. "Miss Carter "I'm staying." Adrian studied her for a moment. Finally, he slipped the pistol into his jacket. "Stay close." The emergency lights flickered to life, casting a dim red glow throughout the mansion. The four of them cautiously walked down the grand staircase. The marble floor was littered with broken glass, One of the front windows had been smashed, Rain blew through the opening. Footprints, Fresh footprints Led into the mansion. "They're still here," Adrian said quietly. Olivia felt a chill run down her spine. The intruders hadn't come to steal, They had come looking for someone. Suddenly A frightened scream echoed from the kitchen. "Help!" Without hesitation, Olivia ran toward the voice. "Olivia!" Adrian shouted. She ignored him. Inside the kitchen, one of the young housemaids lay on the floor. A deep cut on her forehead bled heavily. Olivia immediately knelt beside her. "It's okay, "I'm a nurse." The terrified maid grabbed Olivia's hand. "There were three of them, "They wore black masks." "They asked, The maid began trembling. "They asked where Mr. Kingsley was." Olivia looked up. "They're after Adrian." Before she could say another word The lights went out again. Everything became pitch black. A pair of footsteps echoed behind Olivia, Slow, Heavy, Getting closer She turned Nothing. Her breathing became shallow. Then a hand suddenly grabbed her shoulder. She gasped, Before she could scream "Olivia." It was Adrian. He stood beside her "It's me." She let out a shaky breath, "You scared me." "I know." He looked around carefully, "They're trying to separate us." At that exact moment… A masked man stepped out from the shadows. He held a knife, "There he is." Another two figures emerged behind him three intruders. Exactly as the maid had said. The tallest man smiled beneath his mask. "Mr. Kingsley "You've been difficult to kill." Adrian stepped in front of Olivia. "If you're here for me let everyone else leave." The masked man laughed, "You're still trying to be a hero." He slowly raised the knife, "We weren't paid to negotiate." "We were paid to finish the job." Without warning He lunged. Adrian reacted instantly. He shoved Olivia out of the way just as the knife slashed through the air. The blade tore through Adrian's sleeve, leaving a long cut across his arm. "Adrian!" Olivia cried. Daniel tackled one of the attackers. Alfred grabbed a heavy metal candlestick and struck another across the shoulder. Chaos erupted. The mansion echoed with shouting and crashing furniture. Adrian fought fiercely despite his recent injuries. He disarmed the man with the knife and punched him hard enough to send him crashing into a table. The second intruder rushed toward Olivia. She grabbed a metal serving tray from the counter. Clang! She swung it with all her strength. The attacker staggered backward. Adrian saw what happened, For the first time a genuine smile crossed his face. "Nice swing." "I played softball in college," Olivia replied breathlessly. "Remind me never to argue with you." Just then Police sirens echoed outside. Blue and red lights flashed through the broken windows. The masked men exchanged nervous glances. "We've been compromised, "Retreat!" Within seconds, they disappeared into the darkness through the shattered entrance. The mansion fell silent once more. Only the sound of rain remained. Olivia hurried to Adrian. "Sit down." "I'm fine." "No, you're bleeding." She guided him into a chair and carefully rolled up his torn sleeve. The cut wasn't deep...But it needed stitches. "You protected me. She spoke softly while cleaning the wound. "I told you to stay behind me." "You could've been killed." "So could you." Their eyes met. For a long moment neither of them looked away. Adrian finally broke the silence. "I made the right decision." Olivia frowned, "What do you mean?" "Hiring you." She smiled gently. "And I think accepting your offer may have been the craziest decision of my life." Adrian chuckled quietly, "It probably was." Neither of them noticed the figure watching from outside the rain-soaked garden. Hidden among the trees a man lowered his binoculars, He pulled out his phone "The nurse is stronger than expected." A cold voice answered, "Then change the plan." "If Adrian won't fall make him watch the woman he trusts suffer first, The call ended. The mysterious figure disappeared into the darkness. Far away, a dangerous game had only just begun.
